We have had some heavy rain this last couple of days and it eased up enough today for me to sneak in a quick hike. It was a great day, but strangely enough, not a lot of wildlife to be seen. I usually see Lyer Birds, Kooka's, Roos and the odd bear along this stretch, but have not hiked this circuit since the fires/floods and storms moved through the area not long back. Its amazing how the vegetation grows back so quickly. I hope it did not effect the fauna too much...

Heres a run through of the afternoon. The circuit took around 2 hours to complete the bluff section, with a quick lunch thrown in.

My destination for the afternoon was at the top of those hills. It looked like heavy rain up there and I nearly bailed, looking at the pub I was parked out the front of... But I kept going.

Made it to the car park and the weather was okay, but quite cool. Here is the start of the trail.

Heres a shot of the Blue Pool, just before I crossed the small man made bridge to the first hill.

And here is a shot of the small creek coming out of it. This pool has been one of my favourite swimming holes since I was a kid. A great bunch of rocks to jump off when it's full too, you'll see those later.

Made it up the first lot of switchbacks and hit the spur trail. It was steeper than I remembered!

Time to make a turn.

Made the top of the spur....

Heres a shot of an old pit goldmine located at the very top of the spur.

...yep, it's deep!

The trail along the top of the ridge was in great condition and very well marked, not that you needed it. I have seen deer in this area, but none today.

The turn off to Perigrine Lookout.

The top of the lookout. Its not huge, but still a nice view.

Very peaceful at the top with only the sound of birds.

Instead of doing the full circuit, I chose to double back down the spur and take a trail I had not done properly before called Fern Gully. It was overgrown and made for a hot 'bush bash' until I reached the creek.

Heres a shot of the trail coming out of the scrub. Man it was thick.

Time for a late lunch! A meal of kings! Beef jerkey and water... :)

For a reasonably solid knife, the ASH did some finer work with relative ease. I spent a while scratchin her up a bit...

Continuing in and out of various gullies, I finally came to a spot where I could see the creek again.

Down on the bank, there was a bridge that had obviously been damaged due to the recent floods. The trail was on the other side of the creek!

I found a way across (without getting my boots full) and started the trip back up the opposite escarpment. This was gorge country and steep.

There were a lot of trees down and I had to make some detours. Heres a pic nearly at the top. You can see the damaged bridge in the photo.

A little futher along the cliff face and I finally came to a point above the Blue Pool.

And here we have the end of another great hike. Looking down from the top, at the point where I originally crossed the creek and up the switchbacks. Just had to go through another couple of gullies and back to the car park.

Now I have a week of work and then a week in outback NSW chasin hogs with the longbow. You boys have a great weekend at B2008 and stay safe.

Terrific pics! Too bad about the flooding damage...

Next time lets see some pics from the bottom of that abandoned gold mine. You don't think they managed to scrape out every ounce of gold that's down there, do you?

Worth a look... :p

Great looking pics!

Looks alot like the creek in front of my house, if it doesn't rain my daughter and I will walk down there today. Spring has the animals out around here, had deer with fawns in the yard this morning and the Turkey's across the creek and behind house are still gobbling there ass off.

Any Croc's in your area? The creek did'nt look to hold any, if it does I would'nt be swimming in that Blue hole!

Thanks alot for taking the time to post the pics:thumbup:

AWESOME GUNDY!

great pics

looks like you had a blast

Oh man, Gundy. Those were GREAT pics of what seems to be a beautiful countryside. Makes me even hungrier to get out of the city. I also like your daypack setup. Looks like a Pygmy Falcon II with your ASH sheath mounted to the molle webbing via tek-lok, is that correct? I NEED to try mine out. Had two, but got rid of the green one. Kept the black one for my wife. Got myself a marine-issue pack with a hydrastorm reservoir, but it's bigger than the MaxP and that MaxP looks great for a day-hike.

Thanks for sharing. I hope to post some pics soon of me doing something similar, but with an SFNO strapped to the side instead of an ASH.

Gundy, those are awesome pics  Ya can't beat a day in the wild for sure. Thanks for posting them bro

Man, thats cool. Looks like a fun day. Lovin the pack, and the ASH1. I own one of those and its a beastie!

No crocs here guys, just lots of snakes...
Yep, thats a pygmy falcon, a great pack and one of the best I have owned...
Thanks for the comments and YES, there will be photos of the big trip!
