We have had some heavy rain this last couple of days and it eased up enough today for me to sneak in a quick hike. It was a great day, but strangely enough, not a lot of wildlife to be seen. I usually see Lyer Birds, Kooka's, Roos and the odd bear along this stretch, but have not hiked this circuit since the fires/floods and storms moved through the area not long back. Its amazing how the vegetation grows back so quickly. I hope it did not effect the fauna too much...
Heres a run through of the afternoon. The circuit took around 2 hours to complete the bluff section, with a quick lunch thrown in.
My destination for the afternoon was at the top of those hills. It looked like heavy rain up there and I nearly bailed, looking at the pub I was parked out the front of... But I kept going.
Made it to the car park and the weather was okay, but quite cool. Here is the start of the trail.
Heres a shot of the Blue Pool, just before I crossed the small man made bridge to the first hill.
And here is a shot of the small creek coming out of it. This pool has been one of my favourite swimming holes since I was a kid. A great bunch of rocks to jump off when it's full too, you'll see those later.
Made it up the first lot of switchbacks and hit the spur trail. It was steeper than I remembered!
Time to make a turn.
Made the top of the spur....
Heres a shot of an old pit goldmine located at the very top of the spur.
...yep, it's deep!
The trail along the top of the ridge was in great condition and very well marked, not that you needed it. I have seen deer in this area, but none today.
