Lots of cleared pine trees. I think a storm took a lot of trees down and the rangers had cut through many to clear the trail:

We found a nice clearing that others had used before, and against our first thoughts, decided to use it since it was nice and blocked from the wind.
My buddy cleared a nice area for his fire:

Nothing wrong with using a Zippo!

We planned this trip about 3 weeks ahead and took off work yesterday to head out.
Of course, half way down, my friends' Explorer's alternator went bad. All of his gauges stopped working and the truck started to hesitate and slow down. We thought for sure the day was over before it even started! Luckily we were able to limp in to an Autozone swapped in a new alternator ourselves in about 45 minutes!!!!!!

SWEET! I need to check that place out. I am in the Canton Area it can't be to far to to travel. Looks like a good time!

BTW ramen noodles are AWESOME! Just sayin......

EDIT: Looks to be about 2 hours for me. Not too bad. I may have to check it out!

Nice photos Farns.

The Explorer alternator going bad almost put a damper on the whole day. Luckily we switched it out so quick.

Saw quite a few deer scampering away through the woods, walked through a few shallow creeks, up and down some ridges and in general had a great day.

P.S. The steak tasted better than usual

I've went there every year for the last 15 years. Ever since I started hunting down there. Never took a hike though.

They are even better out on the trail!

I actually live in Nelsonville so its not to far from Wayne National Forest. Great pics.

Wow, I would love to be that close!!! It took us just under 2 hours to get there.

and the ultralight plate, i mean newspaper :D

Ha ha! I was nice cause I wrapped steak in some paper towels and then the newspaper and froze it over night..........it was still cold when I got it out to cook. Then I just burned the paper towels and newspaper when I was finished.

I go to Old Mans Cave a lot during the warmer months. Tried to hike through during the winter time but was ill equipped for all the ice.haha.

Have you ever been to Old Mans cave? It's a beautiful place to hike through.

Oh yeah, thats a great place! We went there in the Winter once and almost slid all the way down to the main cave!!! :D

Conkles Hollow, Ash Cave and Cedar Falls are all nice too!

The nice thing about Wayne is that you are allowed to burn fires wherever you want!

Nice pics! Food cooked over a fire always tastes better. I've started more fires than I can remember using a zippo.
