I got off work early today (very rare) & when I got home I had my boy's (age 7) & my nephews (age 13 & 8) ready to get into something, the weather was really nice (around 60~65 deg) & sunny ! So I stuck my Breeden Pathfinder on my belt & my camera on my neck & away we went ! My boy's have been in this area several times but my two nephews don't really get a chane to go to the woods so I thought I would try to get them intersted in the outdoors ! I'm gonna take them all on their first tent camping trip next month !

It's great to see you getting the next generation out in the woods. It's good for them and they'll be the ones in the future that have to decide whether to protect the land or not.

Don't put up to many good pictures of Kentucky or next thing you know it will become overpopulated. ;)

Awesome post bro. Good to see you getting the boys out, they look like they had a blast!

Thanks guys...here are a few more pics -

& my knife of choice for the day - PathFinder by Bryan Breeden, this knife is AWSOME ! 01 steel - 7" blade green micarta handle. This oversized Nessie style blade does good !

Great job getting those boys outside and away from the tv. I gotta say it, our mountains may not be as high, or spectacular, as those out west, but man are they beautiful. I love the appalachians. I am just south of you across the boarder where it's orange. You guys should look into scouting. You'll all love it.

The scouts in this area ain't much 'Ol Bud...never have been, I joined when I was a kid & never got to do anything but sale candybars, my nephew joined a couple of years ago & it was the same story, he never got to do anything but sale junk ! The scout leaders around here don't really seem to be into the Outdoors or something ?! With my job (coal miner) I don't really have the time either, It's all I can do to squeeze in a few hikes & maybe 1 or 2 camping trips. I take my boys fishing more than anything, the lake is about 10~15min from my house so Eve. fishing trips are easy to do on the week that I'm on dayshift.

That looked like a great day out! Good job on getting the youngsters out with you!

Awesome you got your boy out with his family and had a fun time. Those are some nice pics of good looking land.

Looks just like my land down there. I love vine swings and Ma many a time yelled at me and my brother for being a little too brazen on them. Its steeper than hell in those hills but man are they fun to run around on.

Heres a pic up the holler

and one showing the trail and how darn steep it is on the hill

And one of my uncle Cletus and I inside a very large overhang/cave (its WAY up on the hill and one heck of a climb to get to, I have camped there many many times...gotta watch out for guano though)

How far from Pakvull is that? :)

Beautiful. Did you see the thread on the Mammoth Cave area?

Thanks for sharing the photos. Hopefully one day I'll own some property with some scenery like that.

Beautiful shots. Thanks for sharing. Thanks also for taking the kids out to the woods. So few get to experience nature any more.

They need someone like you to lead them. It is not as hard to fit in as you would think. Let them do all of the boring stuff, you handle some outings like the one you did. Scouting needs us outdoorsy types. Trust me you would be appreciated.

Spring is a great time to be out tramping around the mountains of Eastern KY. Never really considered Pikeville SE KY.

I would love to if I had the extra time !
