Hike with a kid...

and a damned good one too. I played hooky from work today, but ya know we learned about presidents and stuff so it was legit. Not really. It's my girlfriend's daughter's birthday and I decided she needed a good hike. Nothing major of course, but a quick outing for the two of us would be both of our first times this year. I took her through the trailfood shopping, packing our kit and even let her take my digital cam. I used my phone for the pix that our here. I'll see if I can get the little artist's permission to use her pix later. If you've never let a kid run rampant in the woods with a camera, do it! I was blown away by her focus on the trail and the pix she took. I was honestly like looking at the hike all over again through her eyes.

Anyway, 5 mile hike over 3 hrs for a special 9 year old.

Very cool, My daughter loves hiking.
Kids slow you down but its cool taking them with.

Gonna take her up to some caves soon......

Looks like a great day, Murph. Like Flexxx said, the kids can slow you down, but sometimes that can be a great thing. My kids help me see things I would otherwise miss when trying to reach the destination or finish the hike. Thanks for sharing pics of the trip. Good stuff!

Thanks fellas! I bet she thanked me 10 times, it was greatly needed for both of us. Seriously, she filled a 1 gig card in 5 miles.

Looks like a great time, love taking my 6yr old boy out with me. I will take your advice and let him run the camera a while next time. Thanks for sharing the trip.

Good stuff.

Looks like ya'll had fun.

Good to see kids with outdoor interests.

Taking kids out into nature is one of the most fulfilling events one can hope to have in their lifetime.

Great post Murph.

Just wait until you're both older, then your daughter will complain about you slowing her down.

Very cool. I take out my 2 year old all the time. He loves the fall and all the colored leaves he can pick up and carry around. When he finds a new one I have to hold the previous one. This goes on until I'm pretty much holding a bush. They are like little sponges and its fun to watch

Very nice. Kids are awesome, and they need to learn about nature. Sometimes they teach us some things, too.

Great post, Murphy.

Ok, got her permission. I won't post them all because it'd crash the site and I don't need Spark's attention. Here's the highlights.

Some loggers left us some chairs, not very soft, but still comfy.

Very cool, thanks for sharing, Murph! I love sticking a camera in my son's hands and seeing what he sees. It's interesting what we miss, having a different perspective on things.

It was really fun watching her crawl all over stuff and twist the camera around to get the "perfect" shot. I didn't give her any direction (not that I could) except to not stray too far. Looking back through the pix she's really intrigued by a lot of things I push past on my treks. It also has the effect of the Blair Witch Project with a still camera, dizzying. It'll be something I do from now on. Thanks guys!

leaving them is not bad either :) keeding! keeding!!!

looks like a good time...

Great post, thanks for sharing! Reminds me I have to get my 4yo boy out to the river more.

Also +1 for the camera. Gave my little one our old one. Being the designated picture taker in the fam it's awesome to see it from another perspective.
