A friend is trying to get me to go with them, and I kept expressing not wanting to because work, school, etc. And It's been tiring!

But he said he'll get me a framed pack, what is that? I googled it and looked around and they look great for other uses, he said I could choose between north face, jansport, or any other brand I want, if I go with him lol.

I'm not one to say no to free gear ;)

What do you guys suggest?

He got a north face terra 65, I think it was called? And asked if I wanted the same one, I said uh, I don't know; I'll convene with more knowledgeable folk! Though a bit over kill for only one outting, never know I thought to myself, when I may wanna go again, or for longer periods :)

Any input would be much appreciated!

North Face makes GREAT gear, I think you'd be making a wise choice. I had one of their packs when I was in Scouts and it was the best external framed pack I've ever used. I put a lot of miles and trips on that thing and it never let me down.

If your friend is buying your company, do you want to be alone with him in the woods? :D

BTW, a frame pack is a pack that has rigid structure to it to help support heavy loads. An external frame pack is a pack with an exposed metal (generally) frame that the pack portion attaches to. An internal frame pack has some sort of rigid component built in to the pack which is concealed within the pack itself.

I like kelty too. Good deals can be had at campmor.com. You can get a Kelty Redwing 3100 for like 60 bucks I think. Unless you're going multi day that'd be big enough and not too huge to use as a daypack as well. (it has an internal frame).

Adam: Haha, I said I'd go when I get a pack, I didn't think he'd actually get me one :) They were usually $149 at local sports good store, he got it new for $60. I go look for tent/sleeping bag now :)

I had a northface terra 65 and it was a pain! Didn't like the fit @ all. I just picked up a kelty trekker 3950 ex-frame pack an it rocks! way more room and a better fit for me. Had 35lbs in it an didnt even feel a thing!
