This past weekend I checked around the interwebs and scouted around and found a whole new trail system that is right near my house. I am butted up against two separate mountain ranges and hadn't explored this area. As most of my pics show, we don't get too much water, but there was a really nice little stream here! It was so cool and peaceful, I played around the area for most of the day.

This called Owl Rock. Not only does it look a little like an owl, but apparently there is (or was) and owl's nest in there, pretty cool.

This area was part of the big southern California fires a couple years back, lot's burn area but most of the bigger trees are still living. Here's a palm tree out in the middle of nowhere.

Always nice to find useful plants. A few patches of bamboo here and there

Trail was choked over with poison oak, hell no I ain't going that way! Hate that stuff with a passion.

Headed around a different way. Big blown down eucalyptus tree

Lots of big ol' stink bugs on the trail. if you mess with them, they stand on their head and squirt out some nasty smelling spray

I could hear what sounded like a water fall further up but I was running out of daylight and needed to head back

Wow, what a great day it was! I can't wait to head back there. There is supposed to be several thousand acres of beautiful land and trails back there and I will be spending the rest of the spring and summer exploring it. Thanks for looking

Good looking area, glad you found some water!! How are you liking the DR Becker??

This was my second outing with it and I was able to use it on a wider variety of woods. I really like it, especially since putting the Micarta scales on it. Although it's larger than what I normally carry with me, it handles great in hand. It's not too heavy, or too thick (3/16ths") and while it's not a "chopper" it does pretty good at it, and can chop more than I would ever need it to.

Great stuff buddy, way to leave me hanging with the waterfall !!!!!

I've been drooling over those Ritter Beckers for ages now, great looking blade !

Awesome T! It's always great to find a new spot, one with flowing water and a possible water fall is even better. You better get out there and see the waterfall before it dries up bro!

Definitely, I'm all about the falls! The stream is pretty small and probably won't last but another few weeks but I will be back there this weekend

Awesome post T, I always love seeing the pics from your area. That stream looks like it has been running pretty hard. The new Becker Ritter is sure looking good too. Will eucalyptus work for friction fire?

I don't think it would for friction fire because it is so oily, but man the oil in the bark makes for great tinder. Shredding it up it lights like gasoline! I have heard that the trees actually explode during forest fires. Supposed to be really hot this weekend and I plan on going back to this area and enjoying the shade a coolness by the stream. So hopefully more pics to come.
