I went on a hike with my best friend the other day, and I thought I'd post some pictures of it.

this is the trail head for the hike. Horsetooth Falls. Next hike, is actually Horsetooth Rock. I'll have to snap a picture of it soon for you to understand it's name.

We had to start off with a normal picture for us.

Instead of helping her down the slope, I took pictures of her nearly falling. Next time she'll wear boots instead of cheer shoes.

The first steam we came across. Nice little wood bridge over it. Very nice place to stop and look around.

The frozen waterfall at the end of the trail.

I'm climbing the rock, and she snaps a picture of my good side.

Standing on the rock in front of the frozen falls. It was warming up that week and a lot of it had cracked off.

Looking back out over the town and the plains.

A view of the valley and the surrounding foothills.

To the left of the falls there was a little overhang where you could tell there have been fires there. I'm not sure on the legality of fires in the park, so I didn't want to even attempt to start one up. We passed a ranger on the way down, and I should have asked then. Next time I will.

Thanks!

Very nice pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Colorado has some amazing scenery. Really great pictures! Thanks for sharing!

Great area. Looks like good deer country. See any wildlife?

No wildlife this time. We could hear them in the brush up the hills from us, but couldn't spot.

We get deer at this altitude, sometimes mountain lion will venture down here. Little higher up the slopes we get bighorn sheep, bear, mountain lion, elk, and other great animals. I plan on doing at least one hike a week (also part of my BodyChallenge) and posting pictures from them. Two I have planned I've always seen animals on. Hanging lake has a GORGEOUS crystal clear lake at the top with fish you can see swimming 20 feet below the surface, and Stormy peaks has animals in the pine forests and the tundra it ventures into. It sits at 12,148 ft (3,703 m) at the summit. Last time I did that hike I was in fifth grade.

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing, this really makes me miss living in Colorado, hopefully I will be back soon.

Awesome pics! Love the rainbow effect on the one with the stream, cool shot. I suppose that's one way to encourage her to wear different shoes, she was probably hoping for a shot of you sliding back down the rock on your belly to get even :)

Sounds like a lot of wildlife higher up. I love seeing bighorn sheep and bull elk.

I'm sure there's plenty in the foothills where I was, but the bigger animals are higher up. I want to take my girlfriend up to Estes Park and Rockey Mountain National Park this summer and fall to show her the Elk. She's from Irvine, California, so she's got some learning to do in Colorado.

Next hike will be either this coming Tuesday or Thursday.

Last summer I was backpacking in the Siskiyou Mountains near the Oregon border. Stopped at a park south of Crescent City and there were at least a half dozen huge Roosevelt elk bulls within a dozen or two feet of the trail. They say their racks aren't quite as massive as Rocky Mtn elk but their bodies can get even larger. Man they were big!

Nice photos, it's excellent that we have things like this in our back yards. I haven't been up to this waterfall, I may have to check it out this summer. Thanks for sharing

Nice shots, didn't look like you brought your knife or sidearm? I do no matter what. You never know what type of nut you'll run into. The two legged critters are almost always worse than the four legged ones.

Yeah, man, where's your two Pancho Villa- style bandoliers?

Great pics.
Now, when you say "northern Colorado", where are you talking about?

Right now, I'm talking about just outside Fort Collins. There will be some from up into the mountains more once it warms up.

Great pics.
Last time I was there I dang near died(or at least felt like I would) from trying to climb. You guys don't have nearly enough oxygen up there for my old out of shape lungs.
