I know this is kind of off topic but off topic forums are kinda dead (please don't move me).

I'm looking for some really sturdy mids that I'd have to get re-soled before they wore out. I need em for work where I run in and out of a building into snow & slush (western NY) and I don't want to wear my snow boots since they're insulated, so they'd have to be waterproof, also will be wearing them for 15-20 mile hikes. budget is about $150 but if there's nothing worthwhile at that price point I suppose I'll save more.

I have slightly flat feet, never experience pain while walking or standing but my mid foot does collapse a bit, I don't normally require a wide shoe or any kind of orthotic, and can usually be comfortable in anything but the most narrow footwear.

I love Lowa hiking boots. Have great experience with them both high models and low ones.
My high boots are the Lowa baffin Pro's, just had put new soles on 't hem after 5 years or so.
The low ones are the Lowa Strato IV, walk great imho.

X's two on the Lowa's. I run the Lowa renegade gtx and I am very happy with them. They are a touch above your budget but I think they are worth a look. Good luck.

Dinner or Vasgue are what come to mind immediately. Lowa, Scapa make great hiking boots. Zamberlan and Alico also rock a good boot. There are lots of good off the shelf orthotics you can buy if you are concerned. Make sure you try on the boots before you buy if at all possible.

Check out the Alico boots sold at Sierra Trading Post. A few of their boots are leather lined and they can be re-soled.

Whites makes a waterproof boot. They can be re crafted. Not sure any modern hiking boot can be resoled. Third the Lowa sugggestion. Hiked in the snowy cascades with mine this weekend.

They could be "backpacking boots too don't have to be super lightweight

There are outdoor gear forums though which seem pretty active

Which forum would you recommend, there are a lot that come up when I search "outdoor gear forums"

Perhaps Community Discussion> Gadgets and Gear / The Great Outdoors?

Salomon makes a sneaker gtx high top hiker that are really comfortable. For a modern traditional hiking boot and not sneaker vasque and lowa are hard to beat.

I'm having a hard time finding anything built to last, REI just told me they don't sell boots meant to last > 4 yrs. lol

The Lowas have a lot of good reviews, so far it's between something from them or Vasque

I've had good luck with the Reebok Stealth line and several models of Danner but I don't know if they would fit your qualifications.

All good brands mentioned so far. I've owned Saloman is the past and their quality can be hit or miss (at least for me it has).

I currently own a pair of Keen but I don't do as much hiking as I'd like too. I like my Keens but they may not be as heavy duty as some of the other brands listed. Vasque, Asolo, or Lowa.

Zamberlans for me, on my second pair now, walked the bejesus out of the first pair and they are still workable. I have a third pair put away for later ;)

My latest are a pair of Salomon Quest 4D GTX... they can be pricy, but there are deals to be had. The last big hike I was on was about 10 miles up a steep peak--they were perfect.
