I consider myself a light/ultralight hiker so in keeping with my philosophy I prefer lightweight rugged hikers/trailshoes. right now my fav piece 'o kit has gotta be my recently acquired North Face Terranius XCR trail shoe (they're so comfy I'm wearing them right now :D ) . So what style tickles your fancy?

I was very pleased with my pair of Salomon XA Pro 2 trailrunning shoes, however they no longer seem to make them in sizes above 12, so I haven't replaced my last pair (took a beating in the rainforest)

Danner Radical 452 GTX. I put Superfeet insoles in and kevlar laces, and they last me approximately 1.5 - 2 years if I alternate 2 pairs. I wear them everyday, work, camp, hike, etc., etc.. I have psoriatic arthritis, and one of the most severe places it affects me, is my feet. But, since I use this combo, I can go anywhere and be very comfortable.

I've had great luck with a pair of Montrail but they're starting to wear out. I'm pretty fussy and have had no luck ordering on line. I got a pair of LaSportiva for hiking on slickrock but they just won't break in, shoes or my feet.

I got a pair of Keen H-2s and am thinking of trying a pair of their hiking shoes. I think they have a new one out.

Hiking boots dont have a shank and backpacking boots do but they are a little heavier. I have both but I get Nevados at Joes' Outdoor.

Best shoes I ever had for trail running and general out door wear was the Nike Moab and Moab II.

Unfortunately, they haven't been made in over a decade, and at the time, I had not discovered ultralight hiking. (I had a 50+ lb pack and wore Vasque Sundowners, it worked, but ultra light hiking is so much easier.)

The Moabs were comfortable, light weight, tight fitting, with great support. They were pricey, but I loved 'em.

I just picked up a pair of Vasque Wasatch GTX's at the Massey's in town. I have been wearing them around in the house, and they feel very comfortable.

I paid about $170 out the door. I wanted a good pair of leather waterproof boots that did not look "tactical".

I am pleased thus far.

Been wearing boots a long time... The cheap merrells are junk, as are the solomons, I distroy them. Though, I have to admit the nicer all leather Merrells with vibram soles and big chunky metal eyelets are pretty nice.

Though, my current favorite are Lowa Tempest Lo and their twin with GorTex. Great! I've been through about 4 pairs now. I wear them every day. These shoes last forever! Only complaint: the sole starts to squeak after ~8 months and the metal eyelets tear up the leaces.

Gonna have to second the superfeet insoles, worth their weight in gold!

I "live & die" in a pair of Salomon Expert Low.

I would avoid Gore-Tex (not Goretex and definitely not Gortex!) unless you happen to live/walk in a climate that's wet 90% of the time. It adds unnecessarily to the expense of the boot and can tend to make the feet sweaty.
