The Hiking Buddy is a perfect trail companion. Nice and light, perfect size for food prep and trail chores. Yes, I'd want a Leuku or other larger knife for car camping, but when weight is an issue, 3-4oz is about all I can afford for a knife, and this one is perfect. With the little blade sheath I made it, it weighs in at 3.6oz, likely so light due to the 1/8th tapered tang O1.

Backcountry ramen noodle success! Also, the Hiking Buddy helped with a spoon carving project I had brought with me (that plus a Mora hook knife I modified). Turns out Maple is quite hard! Slow going... but fun nonetheless.

I was hiking in the Eastern Sierra near Independence, CA. A very large wildfire to the East made for some smokey evenings, but also some haunting sunsets and pretty pink sunrises.

Looks like a nice spot, good eatin' and a great knife. Thanks for sharing.

Incredible pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Man, thanks for posting the pics. Looks like a great time, plus, you even made ramen noodles look delicious! Nicely done~!

Wow, what a beautiful area. Thanks for the pics.

I'm a bit lazy, I wish they just included all that in the ramen packs to dump in some hot water ;)

beautiful scenery and backpacking setup! thanks for sharing! man, I haven't been able to backpack even once this year....

Those are great photos Keegan! I love the high Sierras.

I also used that knife last year on a fishing trip to Saddlebag Lake in the eastern Sierras. It served me well cleaning trout.

I am very happy to know that you are enjoying it and putting it to good use. The minimalist leather sheath you made for it is very cool too.

Wow, I'm really lovin' this thread. It's been a goal of mine to do some serious backpacking in the near future. To be honest, I just don't know where to get started. Between all of the gear, taking the time off, and getting out to those areas, I just don't see it happening any time soon. :(
But, one day. One day.

Thanks for the pics guys.
Phil, that's a nice looking trout.

Since everyone seems to like the photos, here are a couple more from this trip. If anyone lives in California and wants to know more about the High Sierra or how to get started backpacking up there, I'm actually putting together a video series on the YoooTooobe caching all the stuff I've learned over the years. PM me if you want the link.

Cheers,
keegan
