I'm going to buy a knife for my son for hiking and woods bumming. I'm confused when it comes to 5/32" or 1/8" on which to get. The steel i'm leaning toward is O1.
Also what would be the best Scandi or convex grind. I don't think his skills are the greatest when it comes to sharpening either.
I'm thinking a 4" blade from one of our makers here on the forum.
I just wonder how strong 1/8" would be over 5/32" and also the added weight of a thicker blade.
Thanks all and looking forward to your insight on these types of knives. I'll be back my steaks are on the grill. :D

check out the JK subforum -- he's got a 1/8" thick O1 knife on passaround right now that's survived some pretty intense stuff.
Scandi is easier to sharpen, convex is a little tougher/less likely to dent/chip if your son will be abusing it.
