Great pics (especially in the bigger thread). Thanks for dropping in and sharing!

Those are some great pics, bearthedog! Thanks for posting. That 12" machete looks interesting. Sad thing you can't get stuff like that here in Germany without paying serious money for import stuff. The machetes and bush knifes/tools that are made here are usually 4mm thick, out of cheap 440 stainless and generally crappy. Germany isn't a good knife country. Unless you go into the expensive custom knife area, there are some pretty nice things that fit the bill here.

Based on a little searching, I think it's a hard-to-find 10" model.

Yes, it is an out of country 10" Tram! I just gave one away a few days ago.

I thought Solingen was like, Mecca for knives? Or only kitchen knives?

Mostly kitchen knives. German production cutlery (I'm talking outdoor knives) is something like 5-10 years behind the "trends" on the international market. Most of the affordable production knives are very low quality, either in steel or in fit/finish. Gerber and Böker, the two big german knife companies, still didn't find out that there are things like assisted opening or other locking mechanisms than frame- or linerlock. The custom knifemakers are a different story. Think Jürgen Schanz, Pohl, Extrema Ratio... there's some nice stuff that many people overseas like that's made in good ole Germany.

Solingen is also a great place for straight razors. Some of the best vintage razors come out of that area.

Lol im also a straight razor nut!;)

We used German machetes a few weeks ago in Peru for our jungle survival course. Couldn't believe it, German made machete's in South America.

Probably imported by all those Nazis who fled Germany in '44 and '45. ;)

They mostly opened businesses like junkyards, tire-making etc, little businesses that they could make a living out of while keeping a low profile.

I'll definitely check out casco machetes. Thanks for the hint!

Groovy, Reuben, freakin' awesome shots. You kill me. First your G10 bites the dust, so, what kinda camera you boy's runnin'?

:D

I do love that BK14. Was that your sterile? Or was it roll marked, I couldn't tell, most of the pics were outta focus.

Oh, Hobo Camp, Swamp Version is in full swing, I was approved today for time off. Cya then, if not sooner. Have fun in Malaysia if I don't talk to you or see you before you leave.
