Beautiful pics,thanks for sharing them.
I sure miss the smokies.
Guess I'll have to make do with the Cascades.

Great pics like always! Looks like you saw a bit of...everything! Nice!

Awesome pics Mist! We are very fortunate to be so close to the Smokies. We need to set up a dayhike this fall. Im sure there would be others interested for sure.

Oh, and the knife is killer as well although these might be the only pics that can hang in the same shot as Andys knives.

Great pics, and Andys knife looks awesome. I need to know one thing though, am I the only one that thinks the first mushrooms look like really old boobs?

Thanks for the pictures. It is a very beautiful area. I am hoping to move up that way some time in the future. Should have been there by now, but the economy put a little ding in my plans.
and of course Andy's knife looks great

Man, what a set of pictures. Tennessee has my favorite woods I've ever been in. Nice.

Thanks Mykel, I'd love to hike in the Cascades.

What trail were you on?

I was looking for seclusion, animals and plants...so all of the trails i was on were to unimportant to name.

Great pics Mist,

the HB looks right at home in them thar hillz...

Thanks man, and yep it was right at home. It was nice to just site beside a stream and whittle a bit in peace and tranquility

A day hike would be awesome though be warned I usually hike alone because of my camera addiction and plant/insect/and animal studies. So...between that and some old injuries that I feel more the older I get I don't very deal well with speed marches anymore...and I may occasionally have to be reminded that we are on a hike lol.

Thanks, and don't they always? To me it sort of looked like an odd collection of shriveled nipples...

elliott

Thanks! I really can't say...saw several people doing it but since I had limited time, and was looking for other things, I never stuck around to see if they caught anything...

Great pictures Mistwalker. Looks like you got quite close to that bear. Do you see alot of them? Beautiful area and that stream ...wow

Thanks. I was looking for wild life pics and using a 200mm lens so I was about 35 or 40 meters from the bear. I was going for capturing the animals relaxed and acting natural. I was only about ten feet from the hornets nest and that was interesting. They sure can move quickly.

Be warned, wandering through the Smokies in full camo can get you suspected of stealing ginseng. Coming back to my truck at one point and being seen dressed in full camo and knee-high snake boots by the rangers got me and my truck searched, but they were courteous and very professional and sent me on my way taking pictures afterward. It was interesting watching them look through ziplock bags of tinders and boxes with bow drill sets and various fire starting materials.

I didn't even know Ginseng grew in the Smokies and elsewhere in the United States. I did a search after reading you post to read up on it. Quite interesting story. There seems to be quite a lot of poaching going on of Ginseng and other protected species. They have had to go high tech and are injecting the specimens with dye and implanting silicon chips in order to identify those plants that originated from public lands. Now they are even adding DNA markers to the dye. It is legal in other parts of the country to harvest Ginseng but you must have a permit and buyers must have a license.

The most sought after 'seng in the world comes outta Haywood county NC and Cocke county TN dont know why, whether its the soil and it puts certain minerals in the root or whatever but it is big business in these parts, some boys around here start in July and start diggin everything they see and that kills the species b/c the seeds are not developed yet. You can dig on goverment land starting Sept 1 but you have to have a permit which I believe costs about $25 around here in WNC. Some of the illegal immagrants have started digging it and they and the crackheads are ruining it for everyone else. Noone will let you dig on thier property anymore b/c of all the poaching that is going on nowadays. Sucks.

Hey, that's my backyard. :D

Love those spots, nothing in the world better than a trip to the Smokies. You ever find that trail I sent you too, Mr. Mist?

Yeah, I loved it up there.

And heck no, the batteries died on the GPS just outside of GBurg and I drove right by Treemont without even realizing it till later... Now I have an excuse to go back though :)
