I got the Patton Bowie off this thread

I love this Knife---

Excellent Ergonomics--Sharp as a Witches' Tongue too..

Pure joy to use

The Swamp Rat Howling Rat and HRLM are both very cool knives--but different

The HRLM is a much heavier and sturdier knife(full tang)--

The 1ST Gewneration Howling Rat fits me like a glove--and is so light you could use is as a EDC and forget you had it on.

Great pictures and beautiful country. I don't know a lot about fixed blade knives but I really like the looks of the two smaller ones. The blade designs on both of them look like they would be very functional. What's the name of the one with the black coated blade and smooth, solid handle w/ lanyard?

Before I looked at your location I knew that was a Texas landscape. Thanks for the great pics.

That would be the original Howling Rat. It has a Resiprene-C handle and comes with Swamp Rat's lifetime warranty. Res-C has some incredible characteristics and, unlike rubber handles, it will not come off the tang over time. IMHO, the Howling Rat is one of the best knives ever offered by Swamp Rat.

Thanks on_the_edge, I may have to put that one on my wish list. How does it compare to the Rat RC-3 or RC-4, or the Bark River Bravo-1 as a general purpose camp/backpacking knife?

FYI, the Howling Rat (both models) was discontinued several years ago, so it can only be found on the resale market. You will have to haunt the Busse For Sale forum or post a WTB to score one. Good Luck!
