I'm looking to buy some new hiking pants. I like the ones that covert into shorts with Zip-off leg bottoms.

What do you guys recommend?

Thanks,

Bean

I use Paramount Peak convertible pants from The North Face. They have been very durable and pack down small for overnighters.

They are a bit pricey for my liking, but i was able to find a couple pairs on ebay for half of the regular internet price.

ditto the paramount peak...i'm picky when it comes to clothing and i was skeptical of their durability at first but after using it awhile i'm impressed and bought more.

I don't know if this would be helpful for you but......you might also look into some of the Wrangler ripstop cargo pants at Walmart. They aren't very heavy but they're pretty comfy and I think they're less than $20 per pair. I'll admit I'm not much of a woodsman but I have a couple pairs of them and they've been pretty nice so far. I'm sure there are better options out there but if you want to go cheap, they might be worth a look. :) Oops, forgot to mention that they aren't convertible though. That might be a deal breaker for you.

+1 on the Wrangler ripstop cargo pants / shorts. They aren't convertible but I find the zipper on convertible pants uncomfortable.

Gander Mtn. or Bass Pro Shop usually have a large assortment to choose from. Different colors too.
