When I come to this park my hike usually takes me up this mountain~

Today however I was going to hike a little loop that climbs steeply and then levels off to take me past an old gold mine.
The hike is on the other side of the highway and to reach it I usually go through this tunnel, due to the amount of rain we have had this would not be an option today !

I eventually made my way up and around to the other side and climbed to the top of Niagra falls....yeah obviously not THE Niagra falls but some lesser falls that shared the same name !

Water leading into the falls~

After some huffing and puffing I reached the shaft of the old gold mine~

This has all the makings of a horror movie eh !!!

Nearby was a tunnel also used by the miners, Maisy went in so far for a sniff around......I gave it a miss !

I've seen the movie The Descent , I'll stay here and take a pic !

I left the mine behind and continued along the trail~

Eventually I made it back down to the highway which I crossed and then headed back following the river~

Back at the nature house I relaxed with a well earned coffee !

Nice thread pit - very different and some interesting herstory too!

Great pics, You just have one of the greatest places on earth to hike in.

Just so cool.

Great photography, looks like a great place to hike. When I was in high school me and a friend were hiking and found an old silver mine, went in almost half a mile before we got scared enough to turn around... We were lucky we didn't get hurt or killed, live and learn though.

Oh when I was a kid me and my buddy would have gone in for sure, I guess my sense of adventure has cooled off a little over the years, LOL !

Man, I'm jealous. Great place to hike. I would have gone in the mines, I used to do that a lot.

Pitdog great pic's as always. one question what kind of coffee is that, first cup I've seen with a head on it. LOL

LOL....I was waiting for someone to comment on that, I think it was just how I'd quickly poured it....Saltspring coffee, one of my favourites !

great trip sir and great pics. was there a warning not to go in the gold mine or is that a option? I'm always one of those curious people who wants to explore places like that if it's safe.

No warnings....I'm suprised there wasn't some handrailing around it as it was at least a 6'-8' drop down to the gridding.
