Hey Pit, quick question. What happend to your funny little knife with the hump on the back??

Yeah the wood is dried it has been in my shed for about one year !
It is arrow wood or ocean spray which is pretty tough wood, I just trimmed the bark off in places and left it in others and then gave it a quick sanding before going over with a varnish !The top is a jute wrap.

Very nice, Pit. Have to love a good stick.

Lee Valley offers a nice walking stick tip with options that is worth exploring.

Canes Galore has a number of walking stick tips too. http://www.canesgalore.com/hiking-staffs-rustic-walking-sticks-accessories-hiking-staff-accessories-c-8_49_50.html

Really like that little ML knife, BTW.

Good link, DBL. I was going to go with the Lee Valley tips, but decided that it would be a pain to fit to my bamboo stick, so I went this way instead:

I silver soldered a 1/4-20 connector nut to a copper plumbing cap and then expoxied the cap to the bamboo. The joy of the 1/4- 20 connector is that different ends can be used, including a frog gig that will be adapted to 1/4-20.

Looks really good Pit. I learned I don't like rubber on mine, I prefer them to come to somewhat of a point so I can get a "bite" on a steep hillside. Sometimes in steep areas I'll stick my staff in the ground and brace my foot on it while I step to the next tree or "safe" footing. I've also used them as a "brake" when in an unintentional slide.

If it was me Pit I would have stripped it totally back from the bark - then used a shard of broken glass to clean it up.

But that is pure aesthetics.

I like it. Now ya gotta start carving things into it.
My twisted walker with a wood spirit i carved into it.

Brass cap from a 70ish end table. Works great and it cost me nothing.

This is what I do when I'm watching my son and he's napping. LOL
