This is in Sequoia NP. There was still plenty of snow in the giant forest and a lot of water in the river.. I took my father-in-law for a hike along with my mother in law and my wife.. They waited for us at Lodgepole while we hiked. He's 66 years old and he loves hiking and the outdoors. He stays in shape by walking about 5-6 miles every morning. This was his first time in the park. We plan to go back many times this summer!

Thanks guys.. Next we plan to hike over that ridge in the 4th picture from top. I did it last year and it's a great view from up there. Here are a few more pics..

Here's a little black bear.. Grandpa's first time to see a bear.. Looks like he's ready to run!

WOW! Awesome pictures! Looks like an alien world compared to my woods. I'd love to explore a place like that some day.

Stellar pictures! Thank you for the eye candy. Ya'll look a bit too close to that bear though... Stay safe now!

Just an aside; your father-in-law looks eerily like my long gone grand-uncle (my grandpa's brother), my own Lolo Ben.

Fantastic.
I was hoping to do the Rae Lakes loop in Kings Canyon NP, or one of the routes that goes through Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite for my 40th birthday next year, but my birthday is May 5, and it turns out that neither is likely to be accessible due to snow. Rude awakening for this Southerner, but that's some beautiful scenery you've got there:thumbup:

Are you going on the Watchtower trail? It really is a cool view from up there. And if you go a little further you get to Emerald Lake and Pear Lake, which are worthy destinations of their own.

Let me know when you are going, it's been a couple years since I went on that trail.

Owen - Just celebrate your birthday late. In normal snow years those routes are pretty much snow free (except for a few high passes) by mid to late July. Just make sure you get your permit as soon as they are available for reservation (March 1 for Sequoia/Kings Canyon). The Rae Lakes loop is very popular and the permits go fast.

Great stuff, Ray  I've never been that close to a bear, heck, I've never even seen one in the wild yet. Crazy :)
