In a fit of insanity I traded away my BK10 a few years ago. I always missed that knife, so I was pretty happy to see one come up for trade that I was able to snag.
Not being able to leave well enough alone, I stripped most of the coating off (down to the grey), took out the plastic insert and used a heat gun to form it to the blade, removed the now unneeded retention strap and sewed the floppy belt loop down.
But the one thing that i have always had a love/hate thing with on Beckers is the handle scales. I like that they are big and hand filling but they are a bit blocky. I was lucky enough to find some of the Micarta scales in stock at New Graham, and had them mounted up and ready to go two days later! Enough blathering, here's some pics:
Here you can see that they are slightly thinner and more rounded than the originals. They fit me perfectly now, feels almost like a custom knife.
I'm not much of a featherstick maker, especially on green wood but the Crewman is a mean slicer.
Pounded it through and pried apart some downed wood just for fun
Talk about a transformation. These scales really make a difference for me and this knife will be seeing tons of carry time now. There were a couple squared off edges on the Micarta that were giving my hand sore spots but I used a piece of sandstone and fixed it quick. I've owned all of the Beckers over the years but the BK10 has always been my favorite, and now it's even better.
