HIKV IS real...

Mrs. Martino is a wonderful woman, and her late husband is HI's patron saint... Well, HIKV struck again, and I've a Sher 18" Sirupati and a blade dedicated to Mrs. Martino, herself, being delivered by Wednesday... Well, I've had worse maladies, ones for which there really is no cure... This one, HIKV, I can live with...

Now I'll have an 18" each of Chitlangi, Gelbu Special, Kumar Kobra, and Sirupati... Toss in my 16.5" Chiruwa Ang Khola, and it feels like I've taken on a pretty good representation of midscale sized blades... Add in Mrs. Martino's knife, a Kumar Karda, and a JKM-1, and I'm slowly getting there...

Funny, I don't look or feel any funnier than usual... The only thing that's changed so far, is my bank account, which is smaller, and the weight of my gym bag, which is MUCH heavier than it used to be... So what if I walk with a list to starboard... Who doesn't, if they take their HI knives everywhere?

Somewhere in storage, I've got a "pull" golf cart... A few more blades, and maybe that will do... On this trip, the car is starting to fill up... Maybe Mom won't miss her dog, if I get a few more blades? Naw, never happen... She'd get rid of me, before the dog...

Fewer clothes, fewer big weapons, fewer... Ah, heck... I'll just have to justify getting a trailer... Yeah, that's it... Or maybe trade my Volvo for a surplus 6X6... Or 2 1/2 ton truck... Yeah, that might do it...

"Loophole, loophole, there's gotta be a loophole..." as the great W.C. Fields muttered...

Take care, stay safe, and have fun...

Good post. I like your collection too. It seems so vastly different than mine, but I've almost got the same number. Chiruwa AK, 18" GRS, Badune Special, Panawal Special and Mini-Panawal by KH. Also a Karda, and I've ordered a Foxy Folly from Yangdu that won't be in for a month or so. I haven't even begun to collect any of the faster knives. I am attracted to the Khukuri as an all around survival tool/camping chopper, digger, prybar. Add in the historical value and the handmade oldworld craftsmanship, and I can't resist these knives. Yep its real, and I'm hooked. Hey, at least you can't be tested for HIKV by your employer...yet!

AFter the first year, I was able to justify khuks over firearms in I could get a khuk every so often but saving for a rifle or handgun took nearly a year.

As you can imagine, my firearm collecting has suffered.

And this only started in Aug. .......

Gentlemen,

Can you think of any other 18" fighting Khuks? I have paired each with my Arms and Armor (A&A) English Buckler, and am just flat-out amazed at what could be accomplished...

Think about it... Defense AND offense, using the A&A Buckler, while having one of the most devastating blades in CQC history in the other hand... {Springfield Armory XD-40 Tactical with Winchester Silvertips in the small of the back, of course grip canted to the left... ;) }.

Frankly, I can't think of a better "team" for repelling unwanted visitors with mischief on their twisted minds... "Taking out the trash" never sounded quite so entertaining before... :D

If you're interested in expanding the performance envelope of Khukuri inspired CQC, the following link to said A&A English Buckler is here:

http://www.armor.com/2000/catalog/item129.html

I used to use an Angust Trim AT1542, but it's a wee bit heavy for me, right now... The 18" Chitlangi, Gelbu Special, Sirupati, and Kobra are just right for "slice, dice, and julienne fry- GINSU!!!" Add the A&A English Buckler, and you have a "dish" best served cold... ;) :D

I may start looking at the LARGER fighting Khuks next... Sorta like "stand-ins" for my longer swords... THIS IS strictly for CQC, you understand... Robert Anson Heinlein, my lifelong hero after my Dad, said the following, "There's nothing so comforting as three feet of steel in a dark room." Amen... For THAT, I've my ultimate sword:

http://www.angustrimdirect.com/models/swede/swede.htm

I call her, "Joyeuse," after Charlemagne's favorite sword. Above mentioned AT1542 is yet to be dedicated by mead and cakes, but that day will come, as I get stronger and lighter...

For now, my Khuks are unnamed... Some very serious thinking will have to go into their best characteristics...

Somehow, as I write this, my new Bura made Kumar Kobra is calling... I think she wants to be called "Whisper." Maybe, as in "Whispering Death..." I'll have to think about it... The name, like the blade, feels right...

As I carry my JKM-1 everywhere, and she seems to not be noticed in the pockets of my cargo pants, I think I'll call her "Surprise!" Gorgeous little Puukko that she is, she gets lots of workouts cutting food for Mom and her dog, opening packages, and being extremely useful- just being "there" when out and about... In an emergency, she could be a real "Surprise!" for a Bad Guy...

Ah well, so much for waxing poetica...

Will be using some 400 grit sandpaper on the bone handles of my Chitlangi and Kobra, as my hands sometimes sweat like a hog on a spit over an open fire... To those of you who suggested this, a hearty "THANK-YOU!!!"

Well got to run... You all have a great day, stay safe, and have lots of fun...

jamesraykenney is my new hero. I think your wife may deserve some sort of nobel prize too! Thank you for putting my small collection into perspective.
