Hillbilly Bowie- how I wasted time this weekend

Here's what I've been hammering on.

Its my second forged knife and I probably bit off more than I could chew, given the equipment I've got right now. Its forged out of a peice of 5/8" O1 drill rod. On a peice of railroad track again.

Its too long to anneal in my forge, and I wasn't in the mood to go to any elaborate set ups for a goof off peice. So I wire wrapped the handle since I couldn't drill holes (I didn't have a peice of authentic baling wire long enough, so I went with "baling wire style" :D ) Unfortunately I couldn't filework my mark in it either, probably engrave it on the ricasso sometime even though I'm keeping this one.
The gaurd is 2 peices of 3/16" O1 drill rod. I drilled holes through the larger rod before forging, and then wired the 2 peices in place. Didn't have any flux, so I don't think they welded at all, but I took it to a bright orange/yellow and smacked it a few times for good measure anyhow. The holes elongated a little bit, so it looks a little sloppy, but is very solid. Its not a peice for prying anyway.
I originally wanted the blade to be wider, but in my fumbling around I just kept drawing it out longer, its 8" from tip to gaurd. Overall length is a hair over 12" and about 1/4" thick at the ricasso with a steady distal taper all the way to the point.
So what do you think?
Anyone else waste a lot of time and steel this weekend? :D

Hey I think that looks cool!!! Thats a really good job for your second attempt at forgeing:D:D

I think the blade looks good ...but you came that close, so why not finish it up right? :)

Thanks Mr. Wrong :)

Jiminy
I might cut the wire off someday and work on it some more, but I've got to get back to some other projects right now. It was just a way to kill some time over the weekend while I was tempering some other blades. I've hacked around with it a little bit and its a good cutter, but I don't have any real plans for it. Glad you like the blade though :)
