Hello everyone, nice forum.
Could I bother someone for the handle thickness of the Mayo Hilo, not including the belt clip? None of the local dealers (what are left-thanks Walmart) carry this one and the web dealers I have found neglect to list this dimension.

Hey Scott...
No one has replied...so maybe no one knows.
I had a 179 Hilo I "accidently" bought at a sporting goods store. "Accident" cuz I didn't read the fine print on the clampack in where it was made. Well, I digress, and my opinion on that has been documented and Buck has made strides to clearly mark country of orgin on the package.

ANYWAY, having said that, I really liked my Hilo. But, someone else was admiring it so I gave it to him. I used to wear it on my vest and this guy saw it and asked about it. He liked it, so I gave it to him (never drink more than two Budweisers...ok, maybe three...judgement goes out the window).

It didn't seem any thicker than a 110...just about 5/8"...but I may be wrong.

Just last week he showed me he still has it. He works construction and that puppy has been used...a ton. Almost brought a tear to my eye...but I am glad he has used it hard with no problem other than the pocket clip breaking off.

I see him somewhat often at a local watering hole...if no one replies sooner I check it out and report back here for ya.

Couldn't find the pic of my Hilo, but here is a pic of the last thing I cut with it. IIRC, I used the Hilo to scratch edit the sticker on the bartender's tip bucket in the pic:

Sorry I cant help either... I *had* one too ;)

It was quite slim and I also liked it! Not USA made so my deer hunting buddy inherited it. (he needed a *real* knife ;))

We're such nice guys huh Jim? Or is that "suckahs"! ;)
How many beers did you have?

Thanks for the responses.
I recognize this is not a real Buck, but God forgive me, I often do very bad things to my knives so I cannot bring myself to carry a higher priced tool.
Today for instance; installing some cabinets, not my vocation-we needed a drywall knife. None to be had so out comes my no name Japanese 440A POS and viola! Problem solved.
If you do happen to find out I would still appreciate the info.

Closest I can measure, it is 5/16 inch

Would have checked the 174 also but it appears to be awol right now.

Mine clearly says BUCK on it. With Tom Mayo's CircleM logo.

Got mine when it first came out and paid as much or more for it as a 110.

I think it is a very REAL Buck and it has held up as an edc just fine.

I just found one yesterday on sale at Cabela's for $19.95 and grabbed it. This is one fine knife and yes, I measure it at 5/16ths thick. Got it on Cabela's points.....seems that's how I get a lot of good knives.

Clearly marked BUCK and a darned good one.

I didn't see this thread yet. So I will take some extra measurements to compensate for that :)
My precise measurements: (taken with a micrometer)

handle thickness : 0,945 cm(aprox 6/16 in.)
handle thickness including thickest point of clip: 1,575 cm
total thumbstud thickness : 1,250 cm (0,492 inch)
blade thickness : 0,388 cm
Frame thickness : 0,227 cm
Frame thickness at cutout section of lock: 0,111 cm

Of course you don't need all these measurements, but hey, why not post them when I can :)
If you want to convert cm to inch, you can use this tool.
