People say they rust due to the sheath is there a way to get a custom sheeth that minimizes rust? Or is what they are saying not so true. And is the cold steel kukri superior to the Hi? In the most recent post about cold steel was the first time I saw any negative feedback about HI but the man seemed to rebuttal a tad yet still states the superiority of Cs. I was actually looking for a decent survival type of knife for my unrealistic dellusion of plausible necessity, so I initially was looking at the classic kabar survival and the BK 9 but I shortly was drawn to the "look" of the combat kultur american made factory made pressed when I looked at how they were made it kind of threw me off there isn't any real individual attention focused on any of the knives just mass produced for sales I don't know what I was suspecting but for my first major purchase I wanted individual quality attention. Still speculating on if I made the best decision not realizing Bill Martino passed years back, and my hoped are about 50/50 if his widowed wife yangdu has an acute sight for details as her late husband did and the quality still remains top niched. As I stated earlier I want to prevent rust, they state if used regularly it shouldn't, the only way one understands how to wield a blade is by use so it should get plenty around here.

The sheath does not cause rusting, whomever is telling you that is misinformed. What causes rust is improper care. Being carbon steel, they will need the attention that any blade of that type of steel requires..... cleaning/oiling after usage and oiling for storage when not in use.
The claims of Cold Steel khukuri superiority over traditional khukuri is marketing on their part and the individual perception/wishful thinking of those whom are posting it, likely to justify the expense of the purchase. Aside from Himalayan Imports quality and customer service, they are one of the best values per dollar spent. The quality of H.I. is still much the same or better than it was when Uncle Bill was with us. Auntie Yangdu is very good at what she does and still upholds the standards set in Quality, Customer Service and the Dharma work set forth by Uncle those many years ago.

Karda I appreciate your input, it is nice to read that the quality is still, well quality. I am glad personally I took time to research my main concern is when I am outdoors while it's raining but I haven't read or seen many people speak poorly of these knives which is why I did make the decision of the purchase I know I will be pleased with it once it gets here. Really excited to put it to work, so I can understand the beauty of the kukri, working with knives on a daily basis for nearly a decade it will definitely be a new experience going from 9" to 25" but I am hopeful in my respect to the edge it will serve me right and possibly serve my son and his offspring with the same respect.

Just as with any sheath or scabbard, if the inside gets wet, you will want to leave the blade out of it's sheath until it has dried.

I just checked and saw that you bought a 25 inch sirupate. This is more sword like than khukuri like and it is more of a weapon than a work knife.
It is not warranted for Field usage, such as chopping wood (although they are still built to HI's standards), please check the warranty in the stickies on the forum for clarification. The 25 inch sirupate would be good for trail clearing tasks (machete type work) and sacrificial beheadings, but not so good for bushcrafting and camp chores. Many people end up quite surprised at just how large a 25 inch khukuri can be. For chopping (for most people) once you get above 20 inches, any more is unnecessary unless you are built like Paul Bunyan. There are 10 models in the warranty that are guaranteed for field usage such as bushcrafting, camp chores and wood chopping/splitting.

I was wondering why I couldn't find an archive dedicated to himalayan imports I clicked the wrong one, anyways that's disappointing I am glad you pointed that out to me like I posted after all said and done I agree 25" is a little excessive well maybe perhaps extremely excessive to much to late I guess. Perhaps it will remain on my walk and collect dust unless their is a civil unrest which is slightly disappointing I was hoping to work with it to get a feel for it utilize it understand it, perhaps I should have asked seasoned minds over mine before the purchase. At least now I know where to look at was is warranted and for what use and I guess there is most definitely a high certainty for a returning customer, live and learn. Still a little disappointing.

Is it already in the mail to you? Was it a special order?
If you are unhappy with your purchase, send Yangdu an Email to explain. I'm sure she would be more than happy to exchange it for something you will be happy with. Customer Service is her middle name. 8>)
Ask all the questions you need to on the forum. There are plenty of knowledgable people there to help answer them.

Pbody,

There are many threads detailing kukri recommendations here. I'm always happy to throw in my .02 whenever someone is looking for imput. Here are my recommendations for a camp knife fitting your needs.

1. Ang Khola or Chiruwa Ang Khola (15-18")
2. Bonecutter or Ganga Ram (15-18")
3. M43
4. ASTK
5. British Army Service (BAS) or WWII

Any one of those blades will serve you well. I'd recommend them in a villager finish (course brushed steel) as it tends to hold any oil used to preserve it and it's easy to touch up.

Yes its already in the mail it was not a special order, I don't think I will be sending it back things happen for reasons we usually don't see quite at the moment, if I wasn't intended to have it, it will bid me farewell. Until that time arises if it arises I will save my money for a field chopper. I am glad you found me before I made the mistake of mistaken identity and used it in an improper way.

Thank you

You can still chop with a 25" sirupate but there are better tools for the job. For me anything that is one handed and over 21 inches feels dangerous to swing. I'm more comfortable with 20" and under. Have fun and welcome to the club.
