i have here a himalayan imports katana, and a busse 3/16 combat grade satin jack, wich has been used, and has had the choil sharpened.
HIMALAYAN IMPORTS KATANA - 210 200 190 165 150 SOLD at 140$ (red huntsman swiss army knife+katana)
overal length - 36.5"
length of cutting edge - 25"
length of handle - 10"
thickness - between 1/4" and 5/16" at bast of sword, 1/4" near tip
heighth of blade (edge to spine) - 1 1/8" at base of blade, 17/16" at tip.
lentgh of dip in spine as compared to perfectoy straight - 1/8" in at center of spine
thickness of handle - 1" consistent
weight of sword - 2lbs 8.8oz (40.8oz)
weight of sheath - 1 lbs 6.3oz ( 22.3 oz)
weight of both combined - 3lbs 15.2oz ( 63.2oz)
materials used -
...... steel - 5160 spring steel, selectively hardened
...... handle slabs - buffalow horn
...... sheath - buffalow horn sheats w/ sterling silver (???) fittings
...... fittings - brass (?)
tang construction - full tang, w/peened pommel to hold but cap.
difference in tip grinds -
right side (edge down ) - 1/2"
left side (edge down) - 5/8"
this sword is as i got it from himalayan imports (new for 345$), except for the tang at the pomemel, wich was peened more to tighten up the but cap fittings. this resulted in a very slight overhang onf the peened area, wich you can feel if you run your hand across it. could be fixed with a dremel or file and sanding.
the sheath has something in the center wich catches on the blade on the right hand side, so there are scratches from the half way point down to the tip area. they are not deep, more like rub marks then scratches.
the two sides of the tip grind are off. the right side is shorter in heigth then the left side, resulting in an uneven tip. i dont think it will effect performance very much, but just so you know. came from the factory like that.
on the left side there are rub marks alon the edge grind from the top of the sheath rubbing into it.
its a very nice looking sword that is functional.
the sheath however, is not what i expected when i got it. i think i would still order this one because of its full tang, but id probably ask for the standard wood/leather sheath instead.
the construction is of (i beleive) 3 sheets of buffalo horn on each side, that is held together by sterling silver fittings with pin rivets holding them together. the two sides are held together by 2 long peice of metal running down the lengths of the sheath on the spine and edge area. these two bars are held tight on the sheath by 2 metal bands. at the top, the metal tap of the sheath holds the two side bars tobvgether.
the tip has come off (came like that), but could be glued back in place. you can disasemble the entire thing pretty easily by removing the tip, and slipping the bands down.
overall the construction (for functionality) is more rickety then i thought it would be. all it is is horn slabs and metal. i was expecting a wood base, wich can take a lot more abuse, and doesnt have as much of a chance of falling apart (less parts in general, can more easily be recrafted).
there is a bend in the two metal bars below the center of the sheath. and there are several points where the laha has seeped onto the horn slabs and is visible, especially on the tip. the tip is currently held on by packaging tape, because i got tired of it falling off (didnt want to glue it back on).
the reason im selling this (besides financial troubles) is more because i want a sword that has a much deeper curve, to allow for a consisten and fluid draw without having to pull the sword straight out and then slash. just a basic conflict of ideal geometry for me.
the balance point is about 4" forward of where the index finger rests when fully choked up.
BUSSE COMBAT 3/16" COMBAT GRADE SATIN JACK (modified) - 110$SOLD
this is a busse combat 3/16" combat grade satin jack that i meant to keep as my solid beater, and as a back up incase anything happened to my daily carry busse's. however, since i switched to something else, i never actually finished the modifications, or reprofied the edge like i would have had i carried it for more then a month.
so, there are few things on this one that you should know about. it has been used as a throwing knife several times, so the coating on the tip has been worn smooth.
the choil has been sharpened, but i never did a complete job on it. it still has a nick in it that i intended to sharpen out from the dremel. (i used a dremel on it, never getting it past warm to the touch, but just so you know, there is a chance it effected the heat treat in that area.). the normal edge is factory though. i will steel and leather strop it before sending it to bring it back up to speed like i got it form factory.
other then the tip and the choil, the knife is solid.
the sheath was originally (i beleive) from on scene tactical. HOWEVER, while the belt loop is standard from what comes from on scene tactical, the screw, washers, and nuts are not. its a flat head philips screw, sink rubber washers, and nylock nut. i have done it with flat head screws and bronze nuts before, but it doesnt look as nice with the bronze and silver... it make sit more bumpy then standard, but its all very rounded edges, so the nuts wont get caught on anything.
the sheath has a few mild scratches on it, mostly on the back side from rivents in my pants.
a note on warranty - if the blade breaks at any other point then the choil, it will still be covered. if it breaks at the choil, then basically caveat emptor - it probably wont be replaced (as my mod caused it to break, not busse's). you could send it in to have them see if it broke because of the mod or because of another flaw in the knife, but still, caveat emptor.
you'll be hard pressed find a more solid beater at the price point.
i can accept money order's, but would prefer paypal at SethMurdoc@hotmail.com
please email me at SethMurdoc@hotmail.com instead of the email thats on my email button for bladeforums. its our servers account, and everything goes to microsoft outlook on my stepfathers computer, away from my reach rather then onto the actual verizon email page.
i send via usps priority with insurance.
if your unhappy within the first 3 days of it arriving, send it back, and i'll refund your money (210 for katana/110 for sj).
and now onto the picks
im really really sorry for the poor quality of these, im using someone elses camera (a sony w1 rather then my f828 (in for repairs), and i dont have photoshop on my computer at the moment (unknown "hardware problem" wont let it open
), so its all edited on microsoft photo editor wich downsamples like mad
