Howdy folks! I just ordered a nice kuk from HI and I saw Uncle Bill passed on. :( Does this affect HI at all? Are they still in business? Do they ship quickly? Kinda insensitve questions, but I have the fever once again.

Maquahuitl;
that's an interesting name- does it have a special meaning?

Life goes on and HI is A-OK. Yangdu is at the helm, taking over for her late Husband.

Thanks for the quick replies...I may sleep now!

"Maquahuitl" poses no significance to me other than it jumped to mind when trying to think of a handle. I have been reading "Aztec" by Gary Jennings for a while. The maquahuitl was the prefered weapon of the Aztecs/Mexica and other pre-columbian peoples. Apparently the obsidian edged war club could lop a horse's head off with one stroke, according to one of Cortez' conquistadors. :barf:

Great name. There's lots of expert blade people here who would have known that.

maquahuitl, an Aztec obsidian-edged sword-club, was a devastating cutting weapon, but lacked a point (and thus couldn't be used for thrusting), and did not balance like a true sword. These shortcomings placed the Aztecs at a considerable disadvantage when fighting against Spanish sword-and-target men. The maquahuitl, despite its obvious flaws, is interesting in that it serves as both an edged weapon (due to its obsidian blades) and an impact weapon (due to its stout hardwood body).
Cool name, and thanks for increasing my Aztec vocabulary beyond chocolatl :D
HI service since Uncle Bill's passing - One to two days in continental US, same as always.
