Hey y'all,

I was wondering if there is a good HI sword model that would be a good Tai Chi sword, or can I special order one, or any other sugestions??

Thanks!

Creighton I have never done Tai Chi but I don't see why an HI Sword wouldn't work. There are several models so surely one of them would be suitable. And if not you might try and send some pics of a Tai Chi Sword to Yangdu and see if she could get the kamis to make it. They have been doing exceptional work lately!  :D

Do you mean something along the lines of a gim? If so then no, there are no current models that are similar to a gim...but that doesn't mean the kamis couldn't make one. If you do end up going custom with HI, make sure you are very very specific about details, I would recommend a wooden model and photos/drawings with specifics as well.

i agree with skyler...
but if you must i would go with a manjushree or a napoleon sword

Ummm, why would you want to do Tai Chi with a sharp sword?

Guys I train with who have been practicing with dull Jian swords for 10 years still have accidents.
Im also certain that an HI sword will be far too heavy for it.
Provided that you do slow movements, it should be 'ok', but you'll also do some twirling and twisting of the sword. If its sharp, you *will* get cut badly dude... These days a wushu practitioner would never use a sharp sword until he was 100% sure he wouldn’t make a mistake and slice his own head off.

unless you want the most extreme forearm work out of your life, I'd say that the napolean sword is going to be the best choice. It's the lightest long sword HI has made (to my knowledge), but they are hard to find.

the manjuree (sp? is this the right name?) sword has a similar shape with its double edge and double tanto-ish point, but is way to heavy for extended kata work, unless of course you want the forearm work out.

Try the Napolean Sword

l have something in mind myself.

I would actually be interested in a live gim...I can see HI easily making a dao version (the Yin-yang Sword already has about the right handle shape).
