this may be off topic for this forum but i figure a kukri is more a utility blade than a knife so here goes. does anyone know anything about himalayan imports products? i am looking at purchasing the 25 in. sirupati kukri, my friend is eyeing the bighorka bowie. if anyone has had experience with himalayan imports products, particularly these two items, please let me know what you thought. much appreciated

Welcome to Bladeforums! :D

Why don't you check out the Himalayan Imports sub-forum HERE at Bladeforums... ;) :)

I have experience with several of their blades and their fantastic service. My favorite is their M-43 kukri which has been my go to chopper since I pirchased it several years ago.

Their blades are all hand forged from truck and bus leaf springs (usualy Mercedes). The workmanship and quality are great, but their blades perform even better.

Check out their subforum.

If I can be of any assistance contact me.

25" Sirupati is the second khukuri I bought from H.I.

With a blade approx 19" long, you may consider it more of a sword than a general purpose survival/woodcraft tool.

My khukuri of choice is the Chitlangi in the 21"-23" (that's overall length BTW) category.

Do your pants stay up with all that :D

JK, I love that blade!

I have the Sirupati, as well as a few of the shorter models. If you don't do a lot of stick/sword training regularly, the Sirupati will fatigue you pretty quickly. I think some of the smaller models may be better for utility use, as noted above.

Top notch quality, good prices, and Yangdu is awesome to work with. Best khukuris out there. They also make good knives and other sharp things, including a small axe called the bancharo.

I've owned a few ;)

You can tell which the user is. . .(20" Chiruwa Ang Khola, if you were wondering)

Seriously, hang out in the HI forum here. They are great knives for cheap prices, and are just made to beat the hell out of. A lot of their offerings are not on the web site, you'll only see them in the forum. Oh, and if you post about a particular model there, Yangdu often lists in in a Deal of the Day. But you have to be fast, there's sharks in those waters!

As for kukris specifically, they make the finest in the world, IMO.
