Hinderco? Spyderer?

I got some David Pointman G10 scales for my Spyderco Domino - now it seems very Hinderer like in a Spyderco kind of way. Hinderco? Spyderer? In any event, I like it a lot - much better than the stock carbon fiber laminate scale:

I can see what you mean, with the forward choil and everything. Only a few things defy the comparison.

1. I can actually buy one
2. They aren't being flipped for 2-3x their worth on the second hand market
3. Ball bearing pivot technology

I think that XM-18's and XM-24's are in much greater supply currently. You don't see them being flipped for sky high prices like they once were. The branding on the latest examples though is quite the turn-off.

I don't see anything Hinderish about adding G10 scales, but that looks great.
I don't care for the scales that come on the Domino and feel you've greatly improved the looks of the knife(IMO).

It's now a titanium frame lock flipper with a G10 scale - just like an XM-18. Hinderer does a different pattern on his G10, but my point is that my Domino is now more Hinderer-like than ever. Let's face it - knives like the Southard and the Domino are in many ways a Spydero response to the marketplace success of the Hinderer XM series.

I've seen half a dozen xm18s for $500 or less in the last month and a bunch under $600, much cheaper than what they used to be.

But this is the Spyderco forum. And that one looks awesome!

Thanks - it's a huge improvement to the knife IMHO. Both aesthetically and functionally.

The Southard imo was a response to the 561 (yes I know that is a Hinderer collab). I see both the Spyderco's flippers as Sal relenting to join the flipper market to take advantage of a market that is there. Eric heads up the flippers. I see the Domino as adding a traditional Spyderco flipper to get some flipping variety. Sal has said several times that any flipper news would come from Eric. I think it is a big step for Spyderco to join the flipper craze. They invented the opening hole, and that has been their only means of opening a pocket knife since. Adding a flipper is like adding thumb-studs. They are both un-Spyderco like. The flipper does work with the opening hole though, whereas adding thumbstuds would be silly, but still when one of your pillars of your company is the opening hole, it is tough to go a different direction.

I don't think we're saying anything differently. Hinderer knives like the XM-18 largely created this market.

Oh I agree...having a controlled and deliberate alternative to the flipper makes deploying the knife blade in the presence of sheeple a more comfortable option for everyone.

Yes, I know what an XM-18 is :p
However I don't feel the Domino is a responce to Hinderer, but rather a responce to the fast growing flipper market in general.
Doesn't really matter though, so who knows. But I do know you've made a huge improvement to your Domino(IMO)
If Spyderco offered one like that I would more than likely get one.
Thanks for the pics !

Gotta love the mods....

I'm not going to knock the mods as we have great ones here, but this move was very very odd.

edit-Whats even more odd is that the thread isn't even showing up in the Spyderco room anymore. Threads that were moved from the room yesterday still show(as moved), but this one was taken away completely.
