Hinderer armorer's tool

I used a damaged penny... After the initial disassembly, I've not needed a tool for the pivot

I'm sure Rick Hinderer is working on a way of charging us premium prices just for talking about his knives moving forward.

I made a spanner out of a nickel. Took about 6 minutes with a small needle file.

I also made a set of Shirogorov screw driver bits out of a nickel.

Not pretty but they work perfectly.

Soft coin nickel or copper doesn't scratch the screws.

I wouldn't say its necessary for your first knife, but its really your call. If you plan on owning multiple down the road, it would be a great idea to invest in the tool. I would also highly suggest inventing in a GOOD set of Precision drivers Hex / Torx. Most companies I've seen use Wiha.

Like others have mentioned, I just use a penny for the main pivot. The only time I wish I had the RHK tool was when I used some blue loctite on a pivot and went to change the scale out after. At the time, I didn't have the RHK tool, so I just used (2) pennies and a vise. It took much longer to eventually get the pivot loose, but it was doable.

Needless to say, after that experience I went to buy the RHK tool to avoid that mistake in the future and haven't used the tool since.

100% not necessary, lots of functional alternatives. That said I got an Armorer's tool on the secondary market here, and it is the best option in my experience. They pop up occasionally for reasonable prices occasionally on the exchange.

I have owned them and they are well made . I sold mine along with my Hinderers. I just bought another Hinderer and will use a homemade I have. I would hold off buying the Armorer until you have an idea if you are in Hinderer for the long haul and would be using it much. If you want one-keep an eye on the exchange and get a little discount

I just use a spanner. I find it to be a really expensive tool (with 1 sole purpose) that wouldn't get used enough to justify its cost. I'd get one if it was 20 bucks lol
