Hey y’all hinderer dudes. I’ve had 3 now. Got rid of them cause I just don’t care for the flipper workings. I like everything else though. I have never tried a non flipper model. The thumb stud on all 3 of mine was about useless. If you had just the right angle, it would open but it’s still hard. Well, now I’ve got one that I really really like. A 3.0 liner lock sheepsfoot. (Boy I wish they’d made a slippy with that same shape sheepsfoot). And it has the same problem. I want it to be a thumb stud opener. But it’s just too much detent.

Is there a way to lessen the detent holding and make these things more thumb stud opening friendly? Does taking some of the bend out of the lock bar help? Is it even possible? Does feathering the edge of the detent hole do it? Help!

Seriously? I have dozen and all are set to my likings.
Take it apart, check the condition of the washers and adjust the pivot screw tension.

That's because yours are real Hinderers, not the current ones with the lockbar wart. ;)

In all seriousness, the earlier (pre Gen5) XM18's usually had much softer detents, although the later Gen4's were starting to trend towards crisper detents. And yes, non-flippers have wonderful thumb action tuning.

Yes, seriously. I have done that. The detent ball is so deep in the hole that the lock bar almost touches the blade.

I have read the same about non Flipper models. Problem is, they didn’t make any in the liner lock version that I have like so much.

Ok. It could be the problem of the later revs.
Luckily I have enough of the old rev2 and prior knives and they all are excellent.
