If you don't have the Hinderer tool use a screw driver that fits the screw properly.

I no longer have any Hinderers, but I always used a standard wide tip flathead screwdriver for disassembly. The great thing about Hinderer knives is that if you do happen to mar the slot on the screw it’s super easy to find another OEM one to replace it. No need to send it to warranty work.

Ive used coins, big ass flat head screw driver, credit card (I was out and about and the pivot loosened)

I used a penny. Also, someone will chime in with the proper sized spanner bit, but for that size I found that the pry-bar piece off of a pair of fingernail clippers fit perfectly. Sounds strange, but it worked like a charm. Honestly, I'm usually a proponent for the right tool for the job, but I think it is a general consensus that the armorer's tool is overpriced for what it is, and IMO a Wiha spanner bit could never steer you wrong.

Careful using the armorer tool. Not the screw but the other side. You can scratch a half moon into the Ti. Some guys put O-rings around it. I used painters tape.

Taking the pocket clip off makes assembly easier.

#12 spanner.

i put painters tape on the back. keeps the nuts in the handle for a less annoying reassembly.

I have only used a penny. Every time. I have never scratched a pivot or had any damage. Its the perfect width and because it's rounded, no worries about damaging the scale.

You want a hollow ground screwdriver bit. Most normal screw drivers are not hollow ground and could burr the edge of the screw. Also the screw driver tip needs to fit the screw slot width. I have a Brownell gunsmith set of screwdriver bits that are different widths and thicknesses that fit different screw sizes. If the screwdriver bit is undersized then you will mark in the screw head. Hinderer uses stainless steel screws which are soft by material type and can be marred easily. If you mar a screw then you can take some high grit sandpaper 1000 or 2000 and clean up the marks. That is if it is not a working finish and then you would polish the finish off of it.

Post #5 above is a hollow ground bit and that is what you want to use.

A #12 spanner driver bit fits the back of the pivot screw.

I have some expensive firearms and don't like to mess up screws. My knowledge for that helped on working on the Hinderers.
