I have been tossing and turning over trying to decide whether I want a crk inkosi or hinderer xm 3.5. But now I am interested in the firetac. It seems like a happy medium between the two.

Does anyone have one and is willing to share some thoughts? There arent many reviews out there.

My only concern is the pivot looks quite small. Does that matter much in a knife built towards harder use?

Thanks

It all depends on what you use the knife for. A Hinderer will take all "hard use" a CRK will take and more.
The FT seems like a great slicer. Go for it

Pivots are not an area I hear of breaking on the Firetac or any other well built knife. Blades break before the pivot.
Firetac is going to be lighter than the XM-18 and less of a pry tool. Thinner blade, sleeker, and more edge. All three of your choices are good knives, so just pick the one that appeals to your eye.

Here are a couple pics of the firetac between a xm18 3.5 and crk zaan ( i no longer have an inkosi)

Of the the three I carry the xm more, its a more ergonomic knife imo. As far as durrability, I guess it depends on what your definition of hard use is, the xm is the more rugged of the three. I wouldnt worry about the pivot being weak on the firetac its plenty sturdy.

Bottom line they are all great but I would go with the xm especially if you have larger hands. If I was you I would make sure and order from a dealer that will accept returns hassle free incase you get it and decide its not for you.

Thanks thats fantastic! Ultimately i would like all 3 at some point.
Unfortunately I like in Australia so returning knives can get risky and expensive. I try and be as certain as possible before pulling the trigger.
Thanks for the write up jwh

Unless you want to just wing it, you should fill in the blanks on how and on what you plan to use the knife. The XM-18 is a strong knife from thick stock, but not your best slicer as an example. For me personally a Sebenza fits well for my needs. It might fit yours well or be a total bust.

I agree it really depends on what your going to be doing with it. Its really boils down to personal preference. If you mostly use the knife to open mail and cut up apples then the xm18 would probably not be the best choice.

You know what I really like is the Hinderer Fieldtac 7" in D2. It's expensive for what it is but I want one - bad.

I could see wanting any Hinderer. I love the 3 that I have.

I don’t think you can lose with any of the three! I don’t have the firetac but I do have the other two. I really dig them both but would give the slight nod to the Inkosi.
