So I'm in the market for a Rick Hinderer XM-18 or the 24?
What's the advantage to the "flipper" or the non "flipper"
Thanks

If you go to the Hinderer sub-forum, you will find this exact topic covered in a thread there. . .

It's really just a matter of personal preference in terms of opening mechanism. The nice thing about the flipper version is that it also has the thumb studs -- which are integral to the design because they serve as blade stops -- so you can actually open the knife that way if you so choose. For the thumb stud-only version, I guess that if you don't like flippers and know you're not going to be opening the knife that way, the advantage would be not having the flipper protrusion in the way when opening or gripping the knife .

I like the flipper. You don't have to use it, but it sure makes it quick and easy to open a folder if you want.
