Hey Folks,

I have a wonderful Gen 6 XM-18 3.5" Skinny Sheepsfoot. It is perfect, other than the flipper tab which feels horrible against my finger. I have had this knife, as well as a variety of other flippers, over the last ten years and am not here to bitch about my finger hurting, as it doesn't. Years of brutal detents (I'm looking at you Liong Mah Warrior v1 CF) have deadened my finger, however I know what feels pleasant and what doesn't and the XM-18 tab feels like an abortion on my pointer finger. It's dumbfounding as my recent Half Track has an absolutely perfect detent and tab. Any recommendations for top notch flipper work? Looking to have this one done right.

Thanks!
Caleb

My finger was killing me after I got my first XM-18 too. I had the same experience, I thought I had a tough flipper finger, but within a few weeks I had a brand new callus on my flipper finger.

I have two skinny 3.5" XM-18's, both slicers, one no choil and one with the choil, both working finish. The jimping on the flipper tab of the no choil skinny seems much sharper than the jimping on the one with the choil. If it were up to me, I would take the last ridge off the flipper tab, making it slightly more rounded.

Josh at razoredgeknives.com use to do an expert job on the flipper tab. Not sure if his books are open right now and also looks like he may be transitioning from modding to full knife making, but doesn't hurt to ask. He's very responsive on e-mail.
