So, I recently acquired a xm18 and it has some bad lockstick. I've tried the pencil method but to no avail. Do you have any other tips to get rid of lockstick?

Thanks :D

Try adjusting the pivot, maybe a little tighter. Check all handle screw, make sure they're tight. If pencil didn't work try a sharpie marker.

Check and see if there's any oil on the lock face. That's about the only way I've gotten lock stick on Hinderer's.

I don't think I've experienced any lock stick with the multiple Hinderers I've owned in the last several years. Is it new? Which generation is it?

It's probably just oiled too much and got in the lock face and tang. Clean all the lube off with a solvent like Zippo Lighter fluid (napatha) or acetone or brake cleaner. That should remove it. If you have more lube coming from the pivot dripping on it, that will be an issue too.

If that's not the issue I have found results are good with a number 2 pencil. Rub it on the tang and or lockbar. I've tried sharpie but it doesn't work as well, but that may depend on the knife.

Hinderer's used to have lock stick as an advantage so you wouldn't have slip. It was a safety feature.?

Okay, im on vacation atm, ill take it apart and clean it off with some zippo fluid and see how it goes, if that dosent work ill try the sharpie trick. Thanks for the help guys. Ill update the thread if it works or not.

It's the 4th gen.

That's really odd, I've owned a dozen over the years and can't recall ever having any issues with lock stick. I just checked out the four XM's my son owns and none of them have any lock stick at all. Lock stick like you're describing sounds like something else is causing it, have you contacted the dealer for an exchange?

If its not oil on the lock face and blade then I will bet your problem is in this photo below

I don't know why this happens but if you over tighten the lock bar tab is causes lock stick.
Should be just snug not tight ? Took me a while to figure this out after I changed out the hardware on a
perfectly operating xm 18 after I messed with everything for a while I thought the only thing I haven't screwed with is the lock bar tab ?
first i just removed it and Perfect ,then just snug it down and everything worked fine.
Somebody can probly explain why this happens ,I have now idea why but it does work
also I have never lost one because of this and no need for lock tight .
Hope this helps
