I really like the Hinderer Armorer's tool, and use it for pivot adjustments, but got tired of using a random assortment of other tools (hex key sets, screwdrivers, Torx bits) for switching out hardware, so I set out to put together an all-inclusive Hinderer toolkit for myself (no, I have no interest in making up any more of them, turns out Wera was kind of a spendy way to go, and it involves buying an existing set and then replacing 6 of the 9 bits). I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. One little package with 0.05" hex, 1/16" hex, 5/64" hex, T6 Torx, 1.6mm slotted, #14 spanner, #1 Philips, as well as a #2 Philips and medium slotted in the extra slots for more general purpose use, along with a driver handle (also got a spare handle so I can have two bits in play at the same time). Folds down flat into a fairly compact package. Anyway, thought folks here might like to see this.

That bit is Irwin brand, off Amazon, since Wera doesn't make spanner bits above... #10, I believe. (My first pass at the spanner involved a Wera flat-blade bit and a Dremel. That worked, but this is more precise.)

I Highly recommend that the Genuine Hinderer Armorers Tool Spanner be used as it is designed (at a right angle) to be seated and held against the knife while turning the other side with a flat head screwdriver and avoiding a "slip" and scratch.

Note: the Armorers tool has the flat head screwdriver as well (wanted to add that for those who may not be aware) In addition it includes the 5/64" bit for the XM18 & 24frame screws (the 3" XM18 needs the smaller 1/16" hex bit).

I just purchased an xm-18 3.5 which ought to be arriving in a few days, however I cannot for the life of me find a genuine hidnerer armorers tool... It would be nice not to mar my new-to-me knife, but if I can't purchase one, what is one to do?

They often pop up on the Exchange in the Gadgets & Gear section.....recheck all the dealer sites.....and if nothing turns up, then there are other work arounds.....but the Armorers Tool really is the best way to go.....

I'm even more hesitant to recommend the "work arounds" these days because experience has taught me - the work arounds satisfy one need and that is "speed".
Speed causes problems and those problems are then around ...... forever.
