I decided I'm going to get the Gen 6, XM 18.
I’m just not sure if I want the stonewashed or working finish.
What blade finishes do you have
And what made you choose it?
Also, if you have pics that would be great.

I have many Hinderers, some are stonewashed, some working finish and some other finishes. I honestly have no preference between working finish and stonewashed. I am sure others will chime in as to why they like one over the other. I use all my Hinderers and have seen no real difference in how they work. If you were buying an older gen Hinderer I would say the working finish takes more time to break in but that point does not matter on the Gen 6. My only Gen 6 is the new Skinner and it is working finish. I freaking love it!

A few pics showing the different finishes that I had in my flickr account.

Some of my Half Tracks. From left to right they are: blackwash, working finish, stonewashed, stonewashed, working finish and Tan DLC:

I only own one Hinderer, a Gen 4 XM-18 3.5 Bowie, and I went with stonewashed because it's my favorite overall finish (in any knife, not just Hinderer). I like how it looks and how it wears, it doesn't show fingerprints, and it's a nice low-maintenance finish in general.

Love both finishes the stonewash is my favorite on the blade and the working looks better on the lockside I think. Full working finish I like on everything except the 3.5” Spanto bc the grind looks better stonewashed. Both are very nice. 6874455D-0546-4151-B450-609A1318F9C6.jpeg 841D1844-B423-482B-A16F-28CE0FF50B2A.jpeg52E7F5D1-83D8-4F4F-96D7-C7999C063B30.jpeg26C6BFCA-2FBF-4FAF-A7F9-393C5D4A7274.jpeg

Thanks so much for your input. I definitely want the Skinner as well.
I also want the CPM 20CV. I have enough S35VN in my life.
I’m really looking forward to the pics of the two finishes.

Awesome Knife. I’m so torn I might have to get both finishes.

They're both awesome. My 3.5" is a working finish and my 3" is stonewashed. I've had many other models in both. I really do have a soft spot for the working finish.

One thing that in my experience is worth mentioning is that the working finish will take rust spots easier (at least in S35VN, I can't say on other steels) if it hangs out in sweaty pockets, while I've never had the same issue with stonewashed Hinderers. I was always able to get any surface rust spots out easily with Flitz when it happened.

I have found the same with the working finish on m390, and s35vn, it gets pepper spots of rust easily. I wipe my WF blades down with some frog lube once in a while and that takes care of it. The battle black finish is also a great choice imo.

I’ve got some of each and have a hard time picking a favorite. If I had only one it would probably be a stonewashed blade. The working finish will develop dark spots without a little care. I do prefer the working finish for the Ti scales though.
  • XM-18 3.5” Bowie: I think it has a stonewashed DLC Blade but I’m not sure
  • XM-18 3.5” Spanto: Working finish
  • XM-18 3” Wharncliffe: Stonewashed
  • Eklipse: Working finish
  • Half Track: Working finish
  • MP-1: Stonewashed
  • XM Slippy Slicer: Working finish
  • XM Slippy Spanto: Stonewashed
  • Flashpoint: Stonewashed
  • FXM Wharncliffe: DLC
Damn, I didn’t realize how many Hinderers I had collected. It’s not a whitty collection but it still got away from me.

I like the working finish. It's been good for me and I now prefer it over the stonewashed. I do like the DLC a lot, too. I also prefer the skinner blade. A few pictures for you, as well...

Stonewashed. I recently sold this one.

I have Hinderers in Working Finish, stonewash & black DLC. I like the stonewash the best. I don't have any in the new blackwash finish, but if it's like the blackish on my ZT 0801, then it'd be great.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post pics.
I think I’m starting to lean more towards the stonewash.

I love the look of that skinner blade.

I prefer the stonewashed but the working finish is a nice alternative. Really, just pick the one that you like the most. Both are fantastic and it really comes down to preference.

I have a spanto stonewashed 3.5in xm-18. Hinderer does a real heavy stonewash on their knives and it hides use very well (scratches and blemishes). If you plan on actually making your hinderer work, i recommend this kind of finish.

Also I heard that the stonewashed version is a bit more resistant to corrosion than the working finish version based off of what ive seen on their facebook page.

Congrats on the new knife. I think you will be very happy with it. Now waiting for pics :)

Thank you! I'm looking forward to getting it.
I’ve been lusting after one for quite awhile.
Looking at all the pics posted here on the forum of
Hinderer knives made it hard to resist getting one.
And I will definitely post pics as soon as I have it.
