I have been collecting knives for a while, having gotten many fine production knives, including a Sebenza, PTCC and a game Warden, to name a few. I love them, but have always wanted to own a custom. I have had my eye on an xm18, but the prices are ridiculous, not to mention the wait time or inability to even get on a waiting list. So last week I bought a Flashpoint. It was pretty cheap and I like small fixed blades. I figured at least I could own a custom knife and one from a pretty well known and respected maker.
It came yesterday. It is a great little knife and I am pleased.
My question has to do with changes in Rick's production process I have read about in regards to the 3rd generation XM 18's. I understand that some of the work has been done outside of his shop, bringing up the question of whether they are truly custom.
Don't get me wrong, I love the knife. But, I was wondering how much of the creation of my Flashpoint was done by Rick himself? Is the Flash point a custom knife? Is it laser cut or ground by a machine first, then sharpened and polished by him? It seems flawless, much like a machine did it. Is he just that good? How does this work? I am fine with it either way, as the knife is pretty bad ass. I was just curious.
