Hey guys I just purchased a hinderer xm18 from plaza cutlery. I have had it for about a week, been flipping and playing with it. When I got it it had super early lockup and slight blade play vertically horizontal is rock solid. I thought breaking it in would make it go away but it still has not. I have noticed that compared to my sebenza it seems lockbar pressure Is very weak. If I push the bar in very slightly the play goes away. Do you think it is a matter of pushing the lock bar in a little more for more pressure, or is this normal on hinderer? Thanks guys

Also if I just grip the knife the play goes away. And every once in a while depending how it is flipped it will lock up solid.

Both mine have early lockup but are rock solid!

Big Red's advice seems like a good idea to me!

Not normal at all, Let plaza cutlery know about your problem if it's not to late and then contact Hinderer.

Sounds like the pivot screw is loose...if you can't fix it take it back to Dan and he'll get it straightened out for you.

Have adjusted the pivot screw even at full lock down tightness where the blade will not move there is still vertical play. I will probably just give the ranch a call.

As others have confirmed, this is not normal. Mine has very early lockup and is rock solid. I would definitely call plaza cutlery or the ranch. The pic below is what the lockup on the two xm's I have owned was like with zero play in any direction.

The lockbar needs more bend in it. This will increase the pressure it is putting against the blade and do away with any vertical play you had. This has happened with some frame locks, and liner locks I've had and I have found out that a slight bend of the lockbar is what takes care of it. At least it has for me and I've had no problems with any of my knives I have done this with.

But if you are not comfortable with doing this yourself, as it does require you to disassemble the knife to do this, then I would call Mr. Hinderer as I'm sure he would take care of this with no problem!
