I wanted a black XM-24 spanto but I got tired of waiting and found a used one here with the working finish and a blue G10 scale. The working finish is really my favorite finish but I do not like the blue scale. Finding a working finish textured titanium scale is not going to happen in this or the upcoming decade so I'm okay with getting a G10 scale. It'll keep the weight down slightly anyway.

I don't like that the show side is a completely different color than the lock side. This goes for this XM-24 like it did for my XM-18 and even the ZT 0301. In fact, some of my first posts from 2012 here were how to get a black scale on my ZT 0301. I ended up dyeing the Ranger Green scale black and that's what it has on it to this day and found a smooth working finish scale for my XM-18. Those are just some of the notable ones but I will often pass on a knife if the handles don't at least attempt to match in color. Weird, I know.

To this end, I'd like to know if any of you have any experience with the grey scales that Hinderer offers. I've seen Grey, Dark Grey, and Battleship Grey. I purchased what was listed as a Grey scale for my working finish XM-18 and it was not as close as I would like. It seemed like a dark grey and had a blue tinge to it. Might one of the other colors be closer? I know it can't be an exact match but I want it to be close and the Grey scale - if that's what I actually have - is not close at all. Maybe dyeing the lightest grey scale is an option. I'd trade my blue G10 straight up for a grey scale if you have one and want a blue.

Just trying to cure my compulsiveness and have a little fun with my knife. Thank you for the help.

Neither light or dark grey will match well, and IMO, if the color is close but off, it will not work.

Have you considered a textured CF scale ? They still can be had for the 24, are extremely functional and pretty. And they are a dark grey actually (darker than WF of course, but not black), with a little shine when held against the light.

I have the lightest grey scale and it’s almost white, which is the look I wanted with the DLC blade.

This light grey is hard to find and I waited awhile for one to post on DLT. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this flavor of grey available in an aftermarket scale though.

If you go with this lightest grey it will take any dye in a very true, neutral way.

Good luck.

I found a battleship grey scale and ordered it. The photos of it across the internet show "battleship grey" covering a wide range of shades. The pictures could just be a "grey" scale the seller attaches, lighting could be vastly different, or they may be calling it wrong all together. The battleship grey appeared to be lighter than the dark grey or grey that I have now so may be a candidate for dyeing. I will look for a CF one, as well. Don't remember seeing one in stock during my search for the grey scales.

I thought Hinderer has only one grey g10 color. The picture above looks like a what's called "sand" color.

On their website, I see grey, grey (light), and battleship grey. I've seen those colors and an additional, dark grey, around the internet that I think is actually the standard grey. I have one advertised and sold as grey and I have one listed as battleship grey on the way. I guess we'll have part of the answer on Monday.

Took a little while to get it. The package was routed through Anchorage on its way to me. Added a few extra days.

The pictures might give some an idea of the differences between grey and battleship grey.

I like it and will be keeping it. Might dye it or just let it darken with use. Thinking of new hardware. Maybe some black for the XM-24 and blue for the XM-18. Maybe bronze, maybe working finish. I don't really know.

I got a CF scale and was a little shocked at grey it looked.
