Well......guess I'm in the Hinderer camp now for good. Almost wrote off hinderer, my first Hinderer....an XM-18 3 inch slicer I sent back a few weeks ago for a non centered blade. I decided to give em one more shot....oh so glad I did

Just took delivery of a new gen5 XM-18 3.5" Warncliffe. Stone washed 20cv blade with stonewashed handle, gray g10 replaced with full Ti battle blue within first few minutes of ownership. The knife came perfectly centered blade with no blade play and fires out with authority with no break in on teflon washers. I intentionally sought out a gen5 for the steel lockbar insert as I dont want bearings in this knife. I want this one for my backcountry excursions/camping......which I do alot of. If it gets dirty, I will rinse it in a stream and keep going. I realize I'm probably alone in this camp......but for me the gen5 is the pinnacle of the XM-18 to date. Knives plus had 2 gen5 warncliffe left in stock......no doubt passed over for gen6 models.....just sitting there. So......I am more than pleased/impressed with this piece. Just had to share because who else am I suppose to talk with.... wife couldn't care less about a new knife lol. I appreciate no milled out areas on the tang or scales......just straight hardcore/harduse washers......with the steel lockbar.

The Gen 4s are nice, the Gen 5s and Gen 6s are too. I don't think you'll go wrong with either one of your choices as it all boils down to personal preference.

I'm glad you're pleased with your new knife. I've owned a lot of Hinderers and wound up disappointed with most save for a gen whatever xm24 skinner with aftermarket titanium hardware. Stellar knife. Felt like it would survive a bomb being dropped on it.

The newer generations of knives are awesome with all of the bearings, high end materials, lightening pockets, but, theres something beautiful about a bomb proof tool that will always get the job done, with or without those bells and whistles.

I'll also say that its refreshing to see such an old company keep up with the innovations of the industry. Many companies choose to remain stagnant in an ever changing marketplace and it seems as if Hinderer refuses to be one of them. I'm very excited for the full track, I plan on getting one as soon as they drop.

Love hearing when someone loves a knife. Man, I soooooo want to own and love a Hinderer. Have had several but none worked for me or had issues I could not live with, I keep trying. My next crack at it is gonna be a gen2 Half Track if I can muster the courage to spend the money.
