does anyone know whether rick hinderer treats his lockbars? i just bought my first ever midtech, a 3.5" xm-18, new gen with the logo. i have no plans on ever getting rid of it, but it would give me peace in mind to know that it's going to last many lifetimes without having to do anything to it. would anyone recommend carbodizing?

also, how is hinderer's s35vn? from what i've heard, s35vn isn't so great unless the heat treat is just right, but i'm no steel expert so some help with that would be nice too.

They carbidize their lockfaces so it should be fine. Rest assured that Hinderer's heat treat is spot on for their s35vn. I love my XM in duratech and have one coming in s35vn. Enjoy it, it is a great blade and will no doubt last you a lifetime.

I see from the Hinderer website that they run their S35VN at 60-61 HRC, which is pretty hard isn't it? Is that the secret to good S35VN, running it that hard?

Another yes they treat the lock face. Also good on you for posting this in General. The Hinderer subforum seems to only want "OMG ISN'T HINDERER GREAT!" posts.
