So just recently completed this XM18 by fitting it out with a custom blade. The steel used was Devin Thomas' San Mai stainless damascus with an AEB-L core, heat treated to 63rc. The blade itself is high hollow ground with the edge set to 15 dps. I got the action dialed in perfect, with a medium strength detent that allows the studs or flipper to be used. Lock up is set to about 10% to allow for break-in and the blade dead center.
