Hinderer XM-18 with PB washers before Tri-Way?

Hey folks,

Picked up a used 3.0 inch XM-18 yesterday. It's apparently the gen right before the tri-way pivot was released, but it came with PB washers and he said it came with them new.

Didn't think much of it but have been doing some research to figure out which generation this is and can't find any info on PB washers being used officially before the tri-way pivot. Anyone know if this was a thing?

My paranoid mind is just looking for confirmation that it's not a fake. Doubt it is, but I haven't owned any other Hinderer's. But it doesn't resemble any of the clones I found online.

Any info anyone has on when this might've been in production or where it fits in terms of generations would be appreciated!

My pre tri-way gen 4 all came preinstalled with teflon washers and not PB. Had to order the washers kit from DLT or directly from Hinderer to swap to PB washers. But all that is on my 3.5, 4, Halftrack and Maximus. Can’t say for 3.0

Lots of people, myself included, put PB washers on XM-18s prior to the Tr-Way being on there. Some dealers even sold sets of PB washers specifically for Hinderers. The previous owner probably put them on it himself and forgot, or more likely bought it secondhand from someone else with them already installed.

I don't see any indications that yours is fake. It's a 3rd generation 3" XM-18, so it would have been made between 2014 and 2018. Based on the lockbar cutout, I'd say it was sometime in the latter half of that time period.

I don't know of anywhere that has records of when individual batches of knives were made, but this site is a pretty good reference for all things Hinderer: https://sites.google.com/site/rickhindererknives/

Thanks! Yeah I had assumed he put them in himself until I picked it up and asked and he said it came like that, confused me a bit! That'd be my bet too, maybe got it second hand and didn't realize or something. Going to see if I can bug him for any more info he has on it. He gave me a box, but it was for an old DLT exclusive that he sold and gave the wrong box with it.
