Greetings. Perhaps an odd question. I need to buy a screwdriver for the pivot on 4th Gen 3.5 XM18. Could anyone tell me what that "slot size" might be? If not, will just take it to the hardware shop for fitting. Don't want to opt for the Hinderer tool. Thanks in advance.

Any regular screwdriver will work... The problem you will have (possibly) is that the pivot will spin if you don't lock the back side in with some sort of spanner tool.

After screwing up and scratching some and dinging some others, i would suggest plastic coating whatever you deem your make-shift hinderer tool. Also, if you use a screwdriver or needle nose pliers to hold the spanner side, it will ding it and you'll be sorry. Either buy or make something that fits it. :o

I don't have a Hinderer... I just wondered... on some knives where the back side of the pivot will spin, you can open the blade and apply a bit of lateral pressure. This will 'bind' the pivot enough to prevent it from spinning. Possible on a Hinderer?

I use black electrical tape over screwdriver to not mess up the pivot and use a small screwdriver for the backside, works well no special Hinderer tool needed.

On some of mine, yes. On most, no.. they are pretty secure. I havent seen any signs of blue loctite or anything but they are definitely 'stuck' from the shop.

Yup, thats a great idea too for anything you dont want to mar.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I want to buy a screwdriver that fits that slot perfectly. Have millions (ok, maybe 100,000), of screwdrivers, just not that one that fits the XM18. Already have the 5/16" hex wrench, and don't want to pay the price for the Hinderer tool, just to get a screwdriver that fits.

Just bought a size #14 spanner bit on the Bay for $3 shipped. Figure I will put it in a condom if electric tape is too thick to avoid scratching. Hope a #14 will fit...I was told it would. I will let you know if it does and/or if I had to modify it. I'll even post a video on the Tube if it works.
