Hello all,
Does anyone know what hardness Hinderer uses for their Magnacut?
I know there was some recent controversy one the hole Hinderer knives being soft thing, which I'm sure is not entirely true, and I'm not trying to start any heated debates. But I'd genuinely like to know what hardness they use, I'd also like to know what hardness they use for their S45VN as well.
I can't seem to find much info on the matter.
Thanks in advance!

I'm not a fanboy but will trust their judgement after using their knives for years and them standing up to anything I've thrown at them.

I've been beating on an xm-18 in s45 for over a year and have never thought to myself the edge retention sucks or this isn't tough enough. The corrosion resistance is the only downside for me with s45(doesn't matter who's treating it) and is the only reason I'm looking forward to magnacut.

For Magnacut, guy (1) on the internet talked to some guy (2) (not Rick) at some show booth, and guy (2) allegedly said 60-61 HRC, and then guy (1) made a youtube video.

Also, Rick has used Peters, at least for previous steels.

That's all we know.

I'm not at all saying they make bad knives, quite the contrary! I think they make some amazing knives! (I don't have really any experience using them, but I've handled them and they are wonderful!)

OK, so a little on the soft side maybe, but nothing really enough to complain about.

On the YouTube video for the Jurassic in Magnacut the Hinderer user commented and said 60-61.

One of these days they will harden a steel to a decent level. The main complaint I have on my 20CV XM is that soft 20CV is such a chore to sharpen as it really doesn’t deburr well at all and all that chromium makes for a pretty clogged matrix.

My 20CV is at 59 for reference.

I’d guess 60ish. I have 10-11 Magnacut knives in the 63 range and a few at 60-61. I have a Hinderer Project X in MagnaCut and it feels very much like the others in that range. I don’t miMs Magnacut in that range. It sharpens pretty easily and the edge retention is fine for me. It’s also proven very tough, at least in my fixed blades at 60. Haven’t used my Hinderer hard.
