Sorry, didn't know with Uncle Bills wishes.

It's cool:) The Cantina is by design a place where all manner of things are be talked about amongst friends. What we in the west might find brutal or grotesque, is in fact the norm for other cultures.

Understanding the importance of the khukuri to Nepali culture is really interesting. Part of the importance involves blood sacrifice. I don't think anyone has an real issue with people using their khuks to sacrifice animals. It has more to do with not putting up TOO graphic of images on the forum for sensitive people to stumble across.

lol, this is always going to be a gray area in the Cantina.

No harm, no foul my friend.

I couldn't even make it past the first sentence of that article.

"After the remnants of caste system seen in the form of appalling Shudras (OBC’s of today), dejected Indian women ( the unequal Mother India) and outcaste rebels (Dalits) what is worst seen even today is Vedic Hawans and animal sacrifices to appease Vedic Gods."

So raising animals in an open pasture, then killing them nearly instantly and painlessly, and barbecuing the meat to feed people, many of whom can only afford to eat meat after these sacrifices, is somehow worse than all of the above? Geeze.

Ryan, it has nothing to do with the sacrifices themselves. It has to do with the wishes of Uncle Bill to not post the most graphic of the graphic. Also, keep in mind that BFC is a privately owned website and sometimes we have to curb things in order to keep the heat off Spark. I don't have a problem with it, and you don't have a problem with it, but it could be a problem for someone cruising the site strictly for for knives.

Such are the times.

No, I'm not talking about that at all. I'm 110% sure that Uncle Bill did not write that article.

I'm talking about the article linked, from which the photos were taken, which claims that humane animal sacrifice is somehow the "worst seen even today" on the Indian subcontinent, compared to the things that people do to other humans. The author of that is basically saying "Throwing women, alive, onto their husbands' funeral pyres, and burning them to death when their husband is shooting blanks? Who cares, they're only women. Making entire classes of people outcast or untouchable? That's fine, no one likes them or they wouldn't be outcast/untouchable. But cutting off an animal's head for religious reasons, then cooking and eating it? That's an atrocity!"

The quote from that article again (the first sentence, that I couldn't make it past):

Hey, compared to some of the factory farming conditions here in North America, the critters over there might not have things too bad after all.

To certain closed-minded religious types it is, because these people choose to worship differently from them, and to a fundamentalist worshiping another deity is considered the most heinous crime of all.
