Hello all!

I am very new to bladeforums and this is actually my first post. I am new to custom knives and am looking to have my first one made...if possible. I love the ESEE Rat Izulas design, but I do not like the steel. I am looking for someone to make me the same exact knife but in s30v, vg10 or CPM 154. If you are able to do this project for me please PM me or reply to this post with your contact information.

Thank you!

It won't get made. No one 'Copies' others designs unless it's a historical knife.

ah ok...thanks for the heads up. I figured that was going to prohibit this.

you can always ask a maker to do his interpretation of a pattern you like...he may want to do it and he may not, but it can't hurt to ask. You could say..."Mr. Maker, I really like that Izulas pattern. What can we come up with based on that design?" Or better yet, you could try to sketch out the knife you are looking for and then go from there. Take the pattern you like, and customize it to your liking (hence the term custom knife)...put it on paper as best you can

Will do thanks man...any makers you recommend?

If the carbon steel issue bothers you, I think ESEE are working on a 440C version. It's not VG10, but is is stainless.

If you already knew that, please disregard my post, if not - do a quick search - there are threads on the 440C option.

On the other hand, custom knives represent the chance for a unique interpretation that suits your needs.

You can't lose with such a simple design (I love my little Izula :D)

Well if there are any knifemakers out there who would be interested in taking on the project of making me one sweet Izula-similar knife please let me know. I know I am new here and am willing to pay in advance to prove I am serious. I can also fax a drawing of what I want. I basically want the Esee Izula in VG10 or S30v with some minor differences to avoid and copyright infringement.

Thank you!
Ben

i dont have the ability to HT SS and i know you get better performance out of carbon steel that is forged, the only draw back of carbon is the corrosion factor.

What type of carbon steel do you use? Is it better than the 1095 carbon? Are you able to coat blades to help prevent corrosion?

i work in 5160,W2,O1 and all the 10xx series carbon even play with 52100 a bit....ive never coated one but i have a friend thats does his if you want i can check in to it...go to my web site and check out my stuff...if you want give me a call and we'll talk....thanks for your consideration

Why not just ask the original MFG to do some in CPM154 or something? It's probably something they have --- or are now--- considering.
The big thing is cost. Carbon steel is practically free compared with CPM154 or S30V and somewhat more expensive to process, but maybe they could try it out with a short run. Maybe all they need is some encouragement ....
