Hi,

I would like to order a slip joint from Hiroaki. If you have a photo could you please post it along with the handle length? I'm trying to figure out what models he offers and the sizes. His web site doesn't have much info.

Thanks in advance.

Dave

The Wharncliffe has a closed length of 3.5".

This drop point has a closed length of 3".

I've had these for awhile. Both knives are very well made and nicely finished.

I got an Ohta stag gunstock with a drop point blade recently. It's a sturdy knife with s wonderful blade and nice action. However I found some of Ohta's construction techniques kind of strange. He filled around the shield and the areas where the stag meets the rear bolster with some kind of soft dark putty. I removed it and discovered that there were no gaps - i.e, the fit around the shield and against the bolster was perfect. I cannot understand why he is compelled to use putty like that.

He might have been protecting the stag with the putty when he was finishing the shield and bolster - maybe from scratches or discoloration or both - and just missed removing it when he was done.

Dave, PM me your mailing address and I will send you a copy of Ohta's patterns. The oal length is listed with the patterns and they are drawn to scale. Larry

If you go to Ohta's homepage he has a blog that he updates with pictures of what he's working on: http://ohtaknives.air-nifty.com/

If you click on the archives by month in the right margin then it'll bring-up a new page with knives he posted during those months.

That Wharncliffe looks excellent, wonder if he offers other scales on that pattern as pearl does nothing for me...

IF THOSE WHARNCLIFFS ARE MADE AS WELL AS THEY LOOK i WANT ONE. WHAT STEEL?
I HOPE SLOBBER DOESN'T HURT A KEYBOARD!

Here's the specs on the Stag Wharncliffe I posted above:

Knife Specifications: Stag Single Blade Wharncliffe Slipjoint
Blade Length: 3"
Overall Length: 6.5"
Blade Type: Wharncliffe
Blade Composition: Hand Finished ATS-34
Bolster Composition: Mirror Polished 426 Stainless
Handle Material: Presentation Grade Sambar Popcorn Stag
Opening: Nail Nick
Other Features: Here is a very nice wharncliffe folder with loads of utility, fantastic stag scales, rectangular shield and great snap. The blade is razor sharp, the bolsters are nicely fluted and the backspring has a very clean finish. This piece would be a terrific everyday carry.

I couldn't be happier with it.

Got to handle a few of his folders, also owned one of his friction folders, all well
made with great attention to detail, love that wharncliffe baded one there!

I agree with Peregrin and others. Very happy w/(KArt)Ohta Wharny. My blade is 2 5/8", 3 1/2" closed. Excellent F&F, stag, & half-stops. P.s. there's a small wharny @ Nordic.
