I am thinking about purchasing a stag single blade wharncliffe slipjoint made by him. Any comments/experiences with this custom maker?

Hiro makes an outstanding, affordable slip joint. I've owned a few including a friction folder or two.

I've got two of Hiro's stag slip joints. They are both excellent in quality and price. I've become so fond of the Wharncliffe I have, that I carry it almost exclusively.

I can't imagine anyone being unhappy with one of his slippies.

Don't think about it, buy it! Ohta makes some really nice knives, for not a lot of money. I like that in a knifemaker! :)

No stag, but I have one of his jigged brown bone single-bladed hunters that is in the EDC rotation. Great fit and finish. Fantastically sharp. I recommend his stuff.

I don't have a solo picture, but it is the third from the bottom in this photo:

I can only agree with what's already been said. Ohta's work is great, F&F is outstanding. For the price range you can get his knives in, I think they're damn hard to beat. I got one of his wharncliffs in jigged bone and I really love it.

If you really like the stag one you're eyeballing, I'd say go for it.

i've got an ohta that's exactly what you described.
i don't think you're going to find a better knife for the price.
his work is highly undervalued in my opinion.

I just checked out the picture of that one at the site, very nice. Let us know what you think when it arrives.

I checked that one out too. Looks like a real nice knife. Let us know how you like it.

Received it Christmas Eve with a letter of authenticity from Bob Glassman. It is razor sharp with eyestopping popcorn stag. The blade sits dead center. It fits nicely in the custom Italian sheath I purchased with the knife. I spoke with Bob on the phone prior to the purchase and he satisfactorily answered all of my questions concerning the knife. Thank y'all for the recommendation. Have a safe, happy and healthy New Year.

anybody got links to pics of Mr. Ohta's knives? no luck with google and it's no longer in knife shop link above. thanks roland

thanks for the link; but now i am liking knives in the $3500 range. excedingly "dangerous" website. certainly puts Mr. Ohta's fine work into perspective as a lot for "relatively" little money. i'll watch for more of his knives "til i see "The One" roland
